(Redondo Beach) – The Rio Hondo Prep Kares captured their third consecutive CIF Title Saturday evening, defeating the host Redondo Union Sea Hawks, 29-7, in front of an overflow crowd at Redondo Union High School. The win gives the Kares three titles in three years. They won the Division 9 Title in 2023, the Division 7 Title in 2024, and the Division 5 Title Saturday evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Redondo Union got on the board first, scoring on its first possession of the contest when Bo Ausmus fount the end zone on a 99-yard run. The PAT was added by Parker Blevins, making the score 7-0 with 6:31 remaining in the opening quarter. This was the last time the Sea Hawks scored in the contest.

From this point on, it was all Rio Hondo Prep. The Kares did what the Kares do best\u2026run. RHP tied the game on their next possession, when wide receiver Elias Har scored on a 19-yard end around. The PAT was added by Easton Jara, making the score 7-7 at the end of the first quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Kares added another score in the second period, when Nathaniel Shine scored on a 1-yard blast. Jara added a second PAT, making the score 14-7 as the first half came to an end. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rio Hondo Prep added a pair of scores in the third quarter. The first came defensively when defensive back Aiden Delgadillo returned an interception 21 yards for a score. The PAT failed making the score 20-7, with 11:22 remaining in the period. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second touchdown was added by Christian Lee, who crossed the goal line on a 14-yard scamper. The 2-Point PAT attempt fell short, making the score 26-7 as the third quarter came to a close.

The Kares’ final score of the evening came in the final quarter when Jara made good on a 21-yard field goal to increase the lead to 29-7 with 7:11 remaining in the contest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Defensively, Rio Hondo Prep played stingy, hard-hitting football, that never allowed Redondo Union to get into a rhythm. In addition to the \u201cPick Six\u201d the Kares’ outside linebacker Troy Soto also intercepted an errant Cole Leinart offering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rio Hondo Prep improved to 14-0, 2-0 in the Gold Coast League and the CIF Division 5 Champion. The Kares will now wait and see where and when they will play in the California State Playoffs. Redondo Union finishes the season with an overall record of 9-5, 4-1 in the Pioneer League, and as the CIF Division 5 Runner-Up.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
