(Hacienda Heights) – I sat down with Los Altos softball outstanding freshman Veida Aikey who has helped the Conquerors capture another league title this week. Aikey, who is a utility player, is currently batting .400 with a homerun, 14 RBIs and a .528 on base percentage.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

\u00a0Q: What\u2019s up kid, how\u2019s it going?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A: Good, how are you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: How does it feel to be a huge part of a real good Los Altos softball team as a freshman?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A: It feels really good, and I\u2019m really excited for what\u2019s to come in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: How long have you been playing softball and where did you play before being a Conqueror?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A: I\u2019ve been playing softball for about 9 years. I started playing rec at Whittier girls softball. I have also been playing travel softball for the last 5 years, most recently for Explosion Aikey 16u. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: Who do you model your game after?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A: Kaitlyn Terry a pitcher and utility player for Texas Tech.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: How would your teammates and coaches describe you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A: I think my high school teamates and coaches would describe me as quiet, and always putting in my best effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: What is your goal for the team and you personally for the remainder of the season?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A: The goal is to hopefully make a deep run in playoffs, and for me to be able to help my team accomplish that in any way I can, whether I\u2019m on the field or not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: What is the biggest lesson you have learned from softball so far? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A: The biggest lesson I\u2019ve learned from softball so far is softball is a very big mental game, and staying positive is very important. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q:\u00a0How do you handle the pressure of playing in high stakes games?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A: I handle the pressure of playing in high stakes games by reminding myself that I have been there before and knowing my teammates have my back and I have theirs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: Why Los Altos over the other schools in your area?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A: My childhood best friends were going there and being with them is important to me. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: You\u2019re only a freshman but what are your plans with softball after high school?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A: My plans for softball after high school is to play at the next level whether it\u2019s D1, D2, or D3, and going to a college that feels right and I can further my education at. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
