(La Puente, CA) The Nogales Nobles got three touchdowns on the ground each from Gatsbee Gumban and JoJo Venegas in getting a big win 47-22 over the visiting Covina Colts at Jake Jolley Stadium on the campus of Nogales High School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

With the win the Nobles complete their non-league portion of their schedule with a 5-0 record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Nobles started off strong on their opening drive going 64-yards on five plays with Gumban getting the score to open the game on a two yard run. Jaydne Yack added the extra point for the 7-0 lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Early in the second quarter the Nobles extended their lead to 14-0 on Gumban\u2019s second score of the night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The touchdown was set up when the Colts attempted a fake punt and were stopped at the Covina 29. The Nobles only needed for plays to cover the 29-yards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Colts got on the board with just under nine minutes left to go in the first half. Isaac Rojas flared out to the right, caught a short pass from Ethan Hayes and did the rest getting the score. The point after was blocked and the Colts trailed 14-6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As time was winding down in the first half the Nobles went on an 11-play drive to get their third score on the night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Faced with a fourth and goal at the Covina six, head coach Kevin Encinas made the call to go for it and Venegas delivered with a six yard run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Colts struck right back with a score of their own with just :13.7 left on the clock when Hayes hit Matt Chavez over the middle on a 38-yard strike. Hayes hit Chris Muro from 3-yards out to complete the 2-point conversion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Covina received the ball to start the second half and appeared to be on their way to tie or take the lead in the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On broken play, Hayes, facing pressure, dumped the ball off to Rojas who weaved his way through the Noble defenders and into open field. Just before Rojas could get to paydirt, he was hit and fumbled the ball into the endzone. The ball went through the endzone for a touchback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Nobles took advantage of the event and made a 14-point switch needing only three plays to cover 80-yards. Venegas hit Isaac Guzman deep down the right in front of the Covina bench. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guzman avoided the Colt defenders and raced 55-yards for the score. With the Yack extra point, the Nobles now led 27-14.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nogales tacked on three more unanswered touchdowns, two by Venegas and one last one by Gumban to push their lead to 47-14.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gumban finished the night with 150-yards on 22 carries with the three scores and Vengas added another 69-yards on the ground and 172-yards in the air and four total scores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Colts added a late touchdown driving 72-yards on four plays with Rojas getting the call from 4-yards away. Chaves got the call to complete the two point conversion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was somewhat of a long night for Hayes who hit on just seven of 19 passes for 114-yards but did have two scoring strikes. Rojas led the Colts on the ground with 87-yards and two total touchdowns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Things don\u2019t get too much easier for Covina as they will be taking on Northview in their final non-league match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
