The Trailblazers wasted no time in finding the end zone. On their third play from scrimmage Lance Brown got behind the Bishop Amat secondary, hauled in a perfect strike from Demarco Hernandez and raced 79 yards for the touchdown.

After a three and out by the Lancers, Sierra Canyon struck again. This time they did it on the ground as Myles Baker busted through the line and went 49 yards for the score for a 14-0 lead.

Bishop Amat went three and out again and Sierra Canyon hit paydirt again. The Trailblazers needed only two plays this time. Tight end Fletcher Taylor grabbed a pass from Hernandez and outran the Amat defense 74 yards to glory. With over five minutes still left in the first quarter it was 21-0.

The Lancers were stopped on fourth down on the next series and Sierra Canyon took over at the Bishop Amat 45. Darren Haggerty took a handoff from Hernandez on a reverse, pulled up and threw a 31-yard strike to Sir Homer King Webb, who made a diving catch in the end zone for a 28-0 lead.

Things went from bad to worse for Amat on the following possession. McCoy Browner picked up a Lancers’ fumble and retuned it for a scoop and score with 1:03 left in the first quarter.

The quarter mercifully came to an end with Sierra Canyon up 35 but they did tack on another touchdown in the second quarter. After stopping Bishop Amat again on fourth down at the Sierra Canyon nine-yard line, the Trailblazers drove 91 yards on nine plays as Hernandez connected with Brown again for a 20-yard touchdown toss for a 42-0 lead. They took that lead into halftime.

That was basically all she wrote. Jibri Abdullah II scored score twice on the ground for Sierra Canyon. He rushed for a six-yard touchdown in the third quarter and a five-yard jaunt in the fourth as the Trailblazers passed the 50 mark.

With a running clock in the fourth quarter the Lancers finally got on the board. Noah Ojeda crossed the goal line on a one -yard plunge with 3:55 left.

For Sierra Canyon Hernandez threw for 298 yards and two touchdowns and Brown caught three passes for 129 yards and three scores. Jaxsen Stokes had 12 carries for 89 yards.

Domenico Doran passed for 137 yards for Bishop Amat and Ayden Bias ran for 61 yards on eight carries.

“I was really proud of the way our team played. It was a dominant performance and we played all three facets of the game really well. That’s how we wanted to do it and leave no doubt,” said Sierra Canyon head coach Jon Ellinghouse. “We got nothing but respect for Bishop Amat and Coach Minor. He’s a stud and does a great job over there.”

Sierra Canyon won the Mission League at 5-0 with the victory and finished a perfect 10-0 overall. They will find out Sunday who their next opponent will be in the CIF Division 1 playoffs.

With the victory Ellinghouse now has 198 for his career. “That stuff doesn’t matter to me. The only number I want is to be number 1 at the end but we got some work to do,” Ellinghouse added.

Bishop Amat finished the regular season 4-1 and 8-2 overall. The Lancers will also learn of their playoff placement on Sunday.
