OJ was way better
Bishop Amat recruits. La Serna’s home grown kids would still beat them
8 out of 10 games. It is coaching, and doing it the right way. Plain and simple!
Way better back then better teams like playing in D3
Not sure what ER has to do with anything here, we give LS credit for being the standard. We aren’t competing at the D3 level, right now we challenge ourselves with D5-D7 type programs, it would be hard for us to compete at that D3 level at this point in time.
LS LB dropped an int and LS would have won.
But with Beltran no way LS would of loss to La Mirada…
left off one more from 2010/2011 Richard Alvarez one of the most gifted toughest
hard nosed runners I’ve known over the last 1/2 century
Beltran won a D8 championship. He didn’t play in d3, 4 or 5. ER is too scared to play up and schedule big boy teams.
No ring since 2013 but we’ve been to the semis and finals since then and teams that are consistently in that realm know how hard that is to do. But I can honestly say the program stays relevant no matter what division we’ve competed in. We play for our LS family and we really are proud WHAT WE’VE DONE AND HOW WE’VE DONE IT. this incredible ride started with 2010/2011 team…thanks Bueno, Rosie and the rest of that incredible La Serna band of brothers. WE ARE LS
LS THE SAME WITHOUT BELTRAN NO CIF WIN LEAGUE ALL YOU WANT BUT YOU WONT GET A RING ANY TIME SOON.
Arroyo should have never been in the lowest division for baseball. They have over 2,000 kids and get kids that can actually play baseball. The year they won CIF 3 of the 4 semi finals teams were from the MVL. Goes to show you how bad that division was.
@El terrible and ER ….? NADA and never will.
Oh ok, nothing like open enrollment allowing a school to take all the best kids from about 10 different schools, got it
Worthy then compete at D1 to win a title you play D1 all season, let’s reward a school that private and recruits players BA shouldn’t be happy playing D2 to win a championship if they want to be markey school compete should be rewarded because ur a good program but agree the CIF system is wrong and should reward bad records however an 8-2 team in playoffs shouldn’t lost to 3-7 team
Detached Observer do you carry the same feelings for Arroyo baseball winning the smallest division
Please excuse my grammar problems
Oly Fan Basset’s Head Football Coach and staff possibly only people
Basset! Wow they hired one hell of a coach; and with plenty of experience coaching varsity football versus much better competition.
Beltran still coaching at BG
Amat is a private school that recruits. La Serna suits up whoever lives in their district’
It’s coaching and culture. Doing it the old school way.
Bassett is loaded with ex Amat wannabe’s. Amat is right next door.
@really
Amat with no all stars? Private Catholic school? All their players are local La Puente kids. Yeah, I see your point.
That’s my point though. Amat gets destroyed in D1 but could end up winning CIF in D2. Who here can dispute that Amat isn’t worthy of being a CIF champ? They run a great program and put in the work. The same can’t be said about some of the lower division teams. Every CIF championship team should be a good team with a winning record. Shoot, most games are hand picked and they still can’t seem to finish above .500!
Right BG no talent LS talent no championships. Beltran got LS a ring. Nothing other than league championships after that.
good case here. Bassett gets in with a losing record and has a chance to play for a cif title? really smh
el terrible, Beltran not even coaching. He couldnt do anything for BG
@PAc 5 cmon man. D10-14 are participation trophies. Nice try. CIF needs to cut down and not rewards mediocre teams.
There are bits of truth in your argument , but you are really talking about two different things and merging them together : the quality of experience for the school, players , and family as opposed to the quality of football and it’s continuing decline.
That being said to say that the rich atmosphere of the Rosemead v Lynwood game far exceeds a college bowl game is beyond preposterous lol
Sure it’s great for the D14 teams and entourage to experience the playoffs , but there were many squads that worked just as hard (maybe more so ) and didn’t get in . Is this fair ? Why are they denied this glorious experience?
Example : Mary Star beat St Monica by two touchdowns at St Monica . They finished ahead
Of them in league and had .500 record . Had better outcome vs all league opponents
There’s no room for Mary Star in D13 , but plenty for St Monica in 14 because we need more crummy teams ! St Monica in semis .. wow!
I’ve seen their film , wow…
You are right the kids , the parents and the administrators don’t know any better as these blogs testify, and that’s the point ! Wow how did we get so good at the end of the year when we struggled so mightily??????
So I’m not disavowing the experience but just wishing mediocrity wasn’t so readily rewarded ; when two crummy teams play each other someone has to win
Bassett made a good hire of experienced coach who knows what good football is and it makes a big difference as his team improving , Still 4 team leagues with home and away are weak !
Last I heard Amat is an SGV team and they would beat you by 40 all by themselves without any “all stars”. The arrogance displayed on here is too much.
Take a look on how Bishop Amat got reward in D2 double standard cant complain about D13 or D14 when D1 teams get dropped into lower division to win BA would have been demolished at the D1 level like the have in years past.
I find the trolls that so easily dismiss the lower divisions as something less are uninformed, plain stupid and no little about football fans. The parents, relatives, schoolmates, bands, cheerleaders and the community could care less about the division they are in. They are in a semi. A place very few teams reach. The rich atmosphere at these games is more intense than college bowl games. They play not for a D1 scout but they play for their team. The joy is real when they win and the disappointment of a loss is tempered knowing they made it that far. The bus rides the practices the team meals are sealed in their memories forever. The haters know nothing about real football because they will never experience it.
Pretty funny lol
SGV looking big in these lower divisions where they have many qualifiers . If you’re looking to rule D13 and 14 , your goals are penny ante
Baldwin Park rising to occasion San Dimas too
The teams that had an early exit have a right to be a little bitter. La Serna, Charter Oak, Pasadena, Ayala, Northview, etc. They’re in the lower divisions because they attract good players, schedule tough opponents, run a good program and work hard all year (not just all season). So it’s hard to see teams in the higher divisions get rewarded. Whether it’s having a losing record and getting in the playoffs or being placed way higher than they should be and beating lesser teams. We can all agree there’s way too many divisions.
I get it. The LS dude was right. Take the best of the best from the SGV remaining teams and LS destroys them. However, the teams still in the dance deserve credit. They’re playing who’s in front of them and they’re having the time of their lives. Go get that ring boys. Screw the haters.
Good luck next season to the good programs that are already out. Keep doing your thing. The rewards will come.
It’s because there are in POS D14
Coach is doing great job but level of completion is deplorable
Do you think if they played anyone with a pulse the result would be different , or Cantwell wouldn’t whitewash them????
I think aside from a CIF playoff restructure, a division restructure is also needed. I think so many divisions equate to lowering the impact of playoffs and creating confusion on whether a team is progressing in talent or just becoming worse enough to win at a lower division. To clarify things I propose a 9 division system
1A, 1B, 1C
2A, 2B, 2C
3A, 3B, 3C
@Oly fan congrats bro happy for your Bassett team, they have earned this chance forget any of these soar loser people from teams you guys beat or better teams who have lost. You have so far gotten the job done good luck the rest of the way.
@Anonymous Palos Verdes begs to differ…lol
This guy must be off his meds to actually say this out in the open.
@just the facts what an idiot of anon to that right ? His kid was probably on a really good LA Serna that lost in the 1st round of CIf and he dwelling on Could of should of. Lol was a dummy
Those lower division are just garbage, they need to eliminate 13 & 14. Make CIF meaningful again. This EOP style playoffs is just in American.
Hey Anon, where does this great La Serna team play this week? I love to see them.
@Anonymous Do you know how big of a ignorant Loser you sound like. La Serna DIDN’T make the cut bro, they only dominate in the regular season. They have proven this year after year. Have so self respect and Let these teams who do dominate play on. If LA Serna was the dominate as you blab about they should be able to when CIF titles at least every other year as you state their dominance. I still can believe the stupid comments people come up with… Good one though
Yes but they ain’t playing no more Lol just move on LS the best maybe bring Beltran back he got you guys a Cif…..
As we look forward to the annual rite of practicing on Thanksgiving, my thoughts turn to those teams excluded from such festivities. If CIF is letting 3-7 teams into the dance, couldn’t it see its way to creating a special Thanksgiving Day Practice division, which would be a sort of social outlet for those programs that failed to reach the 3-7 cutoff? It would mean a lot to the kids.
Respect to all the local sgv teams still it!
take all the best players from all remaining SGV teams, and
La Serna would still beat them by 40.
Wow, SGV making a big statement in football, where have you been? I been here since 2009 there’s always been good SGV football teams.
SGV making a big statement in football.
Bassett shocking everyone who what of thought they would be in the semi final….when the last time if ever they been in the Semi Final
San Gabriel 22 vs. A.B. Miller 17 Final
Bassett 30
Fontana 26
Final
Great job 👏 Olympians
