Hughes Resigns at Diamond Bar

By Tim Peterson (Diamond Bar) – Marcus Hughes has resigned as the head coach at Diamond Bar after three seasons according to Michelle Gardner at the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin. 

Newcomer of the Year: QB Ernesto Camacho – Arroyo

Ernesto Camacho wasn’t supposed to see much action in 2016. Arroyo had its quarterback. He was penciled in back in the summer and in the early part of the year looked like he was locked in for the whole year.

Most Valuable Player: RB Sal Tovar – South El Monte

Most Valuable Player: What does that mean? Where as Player of the Year may amount to big numbers, enormous talent and outstanding performances, MVP means who was the most valuable to his particular team.

Player of the Year: RB Bobby Cole – Sierra Canyon

Bobby Cole’s numbers in 2016 were too big to ignore – 2,380 yards, 34 touchdowns, 8.3 yards per carry. And when the games were the biggest for Sierra Canyon, Cole came up huge. 

Coach of the Year: Jim Singiser – Arroyo

Arroyo won the Mission Valley League title. Ho hum, okay. The Knights seemingly do that every year. But this season they took it to a whole different level.

Sierra Canyon Wins State Title

Sierra Canyon defeated Serra, 42-40, on Saturday in Sacramento to win its second California state championship in the last six years.
