The Aztecs earned their 27th consecutive victory in the Montview League as they shut out the Olympians Friday night at Citrus College.
Alex Cota capped a 63-yard drive that saw the Aztecs make two fourth-down conversions to set up Cota’s five-yard score in the first quarter. Carlos Montiel scored on a 51-yard run in the second and Jacob Ramos returned an interception 15 yards late in the game for another score.
Bassett’s best chance to break the shut out came in the third quarter when their 53-yard drive stalled at the Aztecs’ four-yard line, where they were stopped on fourth-and-goal.
Sierra Vista 43, Workman 20
Lee Jones rushed for nearly 300 yards and scored three touchdowns as the Dons opened play in the Montview with a won over the Lobos Friday night at Sierra Vista High.
The Lobos were down 21-7 at halftime but the Dons put the game away in the third on a safety and a touchdown on a kick return, making the lead 30-7.
Despite the loss Justin Snedden led the Lobos with 186 yards rushing and scored a touchdown and threw a 30-yard halfback option for another score.
West Torrance 49, South Torrance 14
The Warriors completed 10 of 11 third-down conversions, including four for touchdowns, as they knocked off their inter-city rivals, the Spartans, Friday night at West Torrance High.
The Warriors (4-0, 0-0) put up 585 total yards of offense as they dominated the night. Quarterback Joey Notch threw for 279 yards on 14 completions and threw three touchdowns, while running back Barry Thomas ran for 191 on 20 carries, scoring four touchdowns.
Torrance 26, Leuzinger 7
Bobby Wilson rushed for 139 yards and scored a touchdown on the Tartars’ opening possession as they shackled the Olympians Friday night at Leuzinger High.
The Tartars rolled the Olympians for 281 total offensive yards, including a 21-yard score by Jonathan Heard and a 12-yard dash by Sam Hudson, both in the seconds quarter, that gave the Tartars a 20-0 halftime lead.
Ontario Christian 48, Valley Christian 10
TJ Spykstra rushed for 251 yards as the Knights snapped a five-year losing streak to the Crusaders, Friday night at Ontario Christian High.
Spykstra rushed for three touchdowns, including a 74-yard run to open the scoring a minute into the game and a two-yard run later in the first quarter. He also caught a 10-yard pass for a touchdown in the same quarter, giving the Knights a 21-0 lead.
Liam Bestian’s 37-yard field goal late in the first put the Crusaders on the board, and Jonathon Nichols scored on a 10-yard run to close the gap to 21-10 with nine minutes left in the half. The Knights would score the remaining 27 points in the game, including a 66-yard run by Spykstra.
Cathedral 53, Cantwell-Sacred Heart 14
The Phantoms jumped out to a 46-0 halftime lead and held the Cardinals to 14 second-half points as they cruised to their fifth straight win Friday night at Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary.
The Phantoms alternated between quarterbacks M.C. Poe and Hayden Rettig as they combined for six touchdowns in the first half. Poe also passed for three of four two-point conversions in the first half.
The Cardinals finally got on the board midway through the third quarter as Jared Gonzales connected with Brye Busse for a 15-yard score. Gonzales would also score in the fourth quarter, taking the ball from one yard out.
