Paramount’s Late Runs Beat Lynwood

By Corey Kwok

(Paramount) – Paramount scored on a two out single by Aaron Pleitez (2-3, RBI) and capitalized on two throwing errors in the bottom of the sixth inning and went to beat Lynwood 5-2 Tuesday.

Closer Frankie Valenzuela withstood two hits, an error at shortstop, and another by the center fielder, which allowed two unearned runs in the top seventh and loaded the bases with one out. But Valenzuela, who also went two for three at the plate and scored two runs, escaped the jam, receiving a fielder’s choice forceout at second and a strikeout to seal the victory in SGVL action.

Southpaw dealer Eric Ramirez breezed through his outing to pick up the win, yielding two hits, tossing six shutout innings, and striking out six.

Paramount, collecting all five of its runs against two outs, jumped ahead 2-0 in its half of the opening stanza. Luis Lara doubled in then-shortstop Valenzuela, who led off the frame with a double of his own. Lara then gained third on a Pleitez base hit and seized home amidst a back and forth pickle before the preceding runner was chased down.

Luis Estrada, who took the loss as the runs scored in the first and sixth, had an otherwise quality outing in between for the Knights, serving up four zeroes while nixing 12 of 13 batters he faced from the second to fifth.

Paramount, which commenced league action with a huge 1-0 road win at Gahr last Friday, will host its next SGVL contest under the lights on its own state of the art on-campus facility this Thursday night at 7:00pm versus Downey. Lynwood resumes action next Tuesday, 3:15pm at Gahr.
