Late Score Makes Difference For Gabrielino

(San Gabriel)- Jeremy Franco’s 14-yard touchdown reception with 5:16 remaining gave the Gabrielino Eagles a 28-21 victory over the Mt. View Vikings Friday evening at Gabrielino High School.

The Eagles (5-2 overall, 1-1 in Mission Valley League) were led by junior quarterback Elijah Peters, who threw for four touchdowns. Mt. View (4-3 overall, 0-2 in the MVL) was also led by its quarterback, senior Cris Cervantes who threw for two scores and rushed for a third.

***Mt. View RB Jose Moreno rushed for 136 yards on 18 carries before being injured at

the end of the first half.

*** Viking quarterback Cris Cervantes completed TD passes of 45 and 68 yards to Wideout Adam Olivarez.

***Gabrielino and Mt. View combined for 6 touchdowns on eight possessions in the first

half of play. By contrast, the teams combined for only one score on twelve possessions in the second half of play.

***The game was predominately penalty free, with only four penalties being accepted.

***The second half included eight punts…as opposed to one in the first half.

***The score at halftime was tied: 21-21.

***Gabrielino QB Elijah Peters completed passes to three different receivers…one to

Rikiya Satoh (2-yards), one to Calvin Chen (11-yards), and two to Jeremy Franco (14 and 20-yards).

***The night belonged to the QB’s. Combined, these two athletes accounted for 577

yards of offense, and the entirety of the scoring.

***Gabrielino’s next opponent is the South El Monte Eagles. Game time is 7:00PM on

10/25/13. The game will be played at Gabrielino High School.

***Mt. View next opponent is the Arroyo Knights (who they have not beaten since 1981). Game time is 7:00PM, 10/25/13, at

Mt. View High School.
