Lockett Locks Down Second Round For Pomona

(Pomona)- The Pomona Red Devils earned a second round playoff bid by dismantling the visiting Rosemead Panthers, 45-14, behind the dynamic play of their dual threat quarterback Darreon Lockett and a sturdy defensive effort.

The Red Devils, who finished 9-1 in regular season play with their only loss coming to San Dimas, put up 23 unanswered points after leading 15-7 right before halftime.

Lockett finished his stat sheet filed night with over 350 total yards and four touchdowns.

The Panthers, who end their season 8-3, closed it to 15-7 after quarterback Steven Nava found Oscar Noriega in the back corner of the end zone to cap off an 8-play drive.

Alec Zavala scored the Panthers last touchdown of the season on a 4-yard run which made it 38-14 early in the fourth.

***Darreon Lockett capped off Pomona’s first 11-play drive with a 2-yard run to open up the scoring.

***Rosemead was helped with two big penalties the following drive, but missed a 44-yard field goal.

***Lockett’s 16-yard pass to Kheenyon Wood set up Darryl Aggers touchdown run to give Pomona a 15-0 lead with 4:37 to go in the second.

***The Red Devils will now host Mid-Valley division power Paraclete (54-3 victors over La Canada) next week.

***The victory was Pomona’s first in the post-season since 2002 (when they defeated University (Irvine)).
