(Hacienda Heights) – Tevita Sina returned two fumbles for touchdowns in the second half to lead Los Altos to a 37-10 win over Paramount in the first round of the CIF Southeast Division Playoffs Friday night.
Sina scored the last two touchdowns of the game turning a 20-10 lead late in the third quarter into a 34-10 blowout early in the fourth. While Sina was making the big plays defensively, Estuardo Marcos supplied the offensive punch with 17 carries for 92 yards and a touchdown and a 66 yard punt return for another score. Marcos’ ten-yard run with 9:52 left in the second quarter gave the Conquerors a 7-3 lead and they never looked back.
***Los Altos outscored Paramount 24-0 in the second half and held the Pirates to less than 100 yards total in the second half.
***Sina’s first touchdown came with 2:50 left in the third quarter when he intercepted a fumble in mid air and rumbled 40 yards for a touchdown to give Los Altos a 27-10 lead. With 10:16 left in the fourth he scooped up a ball that was knocked away from Paramount quarterback Gregory Filer and raced 20 yards for a score.
***Tyrell Davis started at quarterback for Paramount and rushed for 58 yards and a 13 yard touchdown but did not play in the second half due to an injury.
***Christian Hacegaba, splitting time at quarterback Lorenzo Silva for Los Altos, had eight carries for 61 yards and a touchdown. Hacegaba’s 14-yard TD jaunt in the third quarter extended the Los Altos lead to 20-10.
***Marcos’ 66-yard punt return for a touchdown gave Los Altos a 13-3 lead in the second quarter.
***Harry Neal led the Paramount ground attack with 19 carries for 108 yards.
***The Pirates had only 20 yards total through the air. Larry Lopez intercepted a pass in the endzone on Paramount’s final play from scrimmage.
***Paramount had three turnovers in all. Los Altos did not turn the ball over.
***Paramount scored first on a 24 yard field goal by Kevin Alvarado in the first quarter but never led again.
***”We’ve been a great second half team all year. Tevita (Sina) made some big plays for us tonight and we were huge defensively. It doesn’t matter who we play next week. This Southeast bracket is wide open. I mean anybody can win it,” said Los Altos Coach Dale Ziola.
***The Conquerors will face Muir next week in the second round. The Mustangs knocked off La Mirada. Paramount finishes the year at 7-4.
