(Pasadena) — Following DJ Bailey’s touchdown, the La Salle defense stuffed Bailey at the one-yard line, halting him from converting the 2-point conversion, giving the Lancers a 21-20 win over Muir Friday night at Muir High School.
Momentum seemed to change hands midway through the fourth quarter when Muir’s lights timed out with 6:15 left to play. Before the power outage, La Salle maintained a 21-14 led over the Mustangs and had possession.That quickly changed after a 15-minute delay.
Once play resumed, Muir was able to force the Lancers to go backward in yards and forcing them to punt on 4th and 36. Once the Mustangs gained possession, they wasted no time to move the ball. Unfortunately, their drive ended with no points when Mustang quarterback Brian Love was picked of by Donte Coxsum in the end zone.
Muir was able to get the ball back on the 17-yard line with less than two minutes left to play when the Mustang’s special teams blocked the Lancer’s punt. After the block, Muir wasted no time to put points on the board when they handed the ball off to Bailey who scored from 17 yards out with 1:51 left in the final frame.
When Muir went for two, and the win, Bailey was stuffed at the one-yard line by the Lancers. On the ensuing kickoff, the Mustangs tried the onside kick but it failed when the Lancers were able to recover, and ending the game by taking a knee.
The Lancers were the first to score points at the start of the contest when Justin Lockhart was on the receiving end of Cj Montes’ 39-yard bomb. Muir quickly responded with a score of their own when Tyquise Solomon hooked up with Aryonis Harrison for the 23-yard pass and catch for the touchdown. After the Mustangs missed the point after touchdown La Salle led 7-6.
Just before intermission, La Salle added another Montes touchdown pass when he connected with R’mon Huff for the score. Midway through the third quarter, Montes threw his third touchdown pass when connected with Lockhart for the second time of the contest, pushing the score at 21-6 with 6:48 left.
Before the power outage, Muir came within seven when Love connected with John Freeman on a 28-yard fade route. After Bailey bulldozed his way for the two-point conversion the Mustangs trailed 21-14 with 10:05 in the fourth.
