- Former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow has worked out with the Jacksonville Jaguars as a tight end. Tebow, 33, last played in the league in 2012 with the New York Jets.

- New York Mets right-hander Jacob deGrom tied Nolan Ryan’s major league record for most strikeouts through the pitcher’s first five starts of a season. deGrom had nine strikeouts Wednesday night to bring his five game total to 59.
- The Phoenix Suns clinched a playoff berth for the first time in 11 years with a 109-101 win over the Clippers Wednesday night.
- On this date in 2015 the Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston with the first pick in the NFL draft.
@ Our Times: NFL teams are going to draft players whom they believe will help them win games. I don’t think they’re out to waste their time and money on athletes who can’t perform at a high level.
I’ll be watching the NFL draft carefully to discern how racially and ethnically inclusive each team is in augmenting their rosters. The NBA and the Oscars blazed the trail toward a shining new world, now it’s up to all of us to carry the torch.
