(Los Angeles) Often times, schedules serve to provide us with a tagline…even before the teams take the field. Such was the case Friday evening as the host Franklin Panthers held on to beat the visiting Rosemead Panthers, 20-19, in front of a small, yet sometimes rowdy, crowd at Franklin High School.
Rosemead opened the scoring in the contest. Angel Bernal converted a pair of first quarter field goals, from 26 and 30 yards, respectfully, giving Rosemead a 6-0 lead after one quarter of play.
Franklin erased the deficit early in the second quarter, when Isaiah Diaz connected with Hector Ceballos for a 48-yard touchdown.
Daylan Santana added the PAT, making the score 7-6, Franklin, at the 10:42 mark of the second quarter. Rosemead responded, when Nick Ostry connected with Damian Martinez for a 24-yard score.
Bernal added the PAT, making the score 13-7, Rosemead, with 6:34 remaining in the period. Franklin added another TD in the frame, as Diaz connected with Nathan Mateo for an 18-yard strike. Santana’s PAT was good, giving Franklin a 14-13 halftime lead.
Franklin added to their lead, quickly, in the third quarter. Diaz connected with his favorite target, Ceballos, for a 74-yard catch and run. The PAT was off-line, making the score 20-13, Franklin, with 10:46 remain in quarter number 3.
The games final score came at the 4:58 mark of the fourth quarter, when Rosemead when receiver Damian Martinez, playing quarterback in relief of Nick Ostry, foundBernal for a 42-yard TD connection. The PAT was unsuccessful, making the score 20-19, Franklin. Franklin was then able to run out the clock, thusly preserving their victory.
Rosemead’s next game is scheduled for next Friday night when the Panthers will travel to Ganesha High School to play the Giants. Franklin’s next contest is scheduled for Thursday when they will host the La Canada Spartans.
Kickoff for both contests is scheduled for 7:00PM.
