Dons Blank Colts

By George Hernandez

[Covina] El Rancho’s defense was all over the field leading to a dominant 29-0 victory over Covina Friday night at District Field.

The Dons got the ball first but gave it up on a interception. Colts gave the ball right back with a interception of their own.

El Rancho did a little better on their second drive taking it 65-yards down field and capping it off with a 24-yard Anthony Bonilla touchdown run making it 7-0.

The Dons got another shot with the ball in the first quarter and quarterback Elijah Mitchell hit Jacob Jimenez on a 72-yard strike to paydirt making it 13-0 after a missed extra point.

Bonilla put El Rancho on the board again midway through the third quarter with a one yard touchdown dive to put the score at 19-0 after another missed extra point.

The Colts put together multiple long drives but they all ended in interceptions.

Mitchell threw his second touchdown of the game with nine seconds left in the third quarter this time hitting Dylan Dominguez.

The Dons put their last points on the board midway through the fourth quarter on a 40-yard field.

El Rancho’s defense was led by Jerahmy Fuentes and Jimmy Valenzuela who kept putting pressure on the quarterback.

Isaiah Paulo, Ramiro Castro, Jacob Medina end Jimenez all had interceptions for the Dons.

On offense Mitchell went 21 of 29 for 278-yards and two touchdowns and a interception. Dominguez was his favorite target with three catches for 83-yards and a score. Bonilla had 87-yards rushing and 43-yards receiving and two scores.

Covina’s freshmen quarterback had a night he’ll want to forget going 11 of 19 for 147-yards and four interceptions. Manuel Mendoza had four catches for 72-yards and Manuel Cortez had a pick for the Colts.

El Rancho will head home and host Norwalk while the Colts hope to bounce back against Sierra Vista on the road.

This is exactly what we need… Del Río League as a whole .. we need to keep winning and put some respect on our league .

It’s all fun and games when we play against each other … but till we meet … I’m cheering for all Del Rio League teams so we can elevate all our babies

El Rancho being unbeaten and dominating who’s across the line from them only makes the league stronger if you ask me. My Grandson plays on Frosh/Soph Cal team, who are having a really good season so far. But better teams in league give league more exposure and respect. Other school parents should welcome the challenge instead of being A-holes about it. Hopefully other lead will look at Del Rio teams and know they will be in for a game who ever they play from the league.

No one has said we are back or mighty we are just consistent and doing what needs to get done. You just choose to be a negative entity on this blog. ER knows exactly what’s ahead of them. They aren’t boasting they are just putting the work and being humble. I celebrate them and am proud of them. Get a life

ER POP, great 5-0 wins against teams that are all minus on MaxPreps.
I’m sure you would of rolled Santa Ana. Undefeated league champs. Playing
easiest schedule in league by a long margin.

Ok anonymous, let’s hear how lucky El Rancho is and how Covina is another cupcake on the Dons’ schedule. Being 5-0 with 4 shutouts in 5 games is no joke but we know you’ll come up with some lame excuse why El Rancho is weak.
