Golden Knights Daze Conquerors

(La Canada) – The St. Francis Golden Knights had little trouble defeating the visiting Los Altos Conquerors, 45-20, Friday evening, in front of a capacity crowd at Friedman Field, in the newly named, and soon to be dedicated, Jim Bonds Stadium at St. Francis High School.

The Golden Knights scored on their first possession of the contest, when Max Garrison found the end zone on a two-yard touchdown blast. Clint Geryak’s PAT attempt was successful, making the score 7-0, St. Francis, with 3:14 remaining in the opening period.

Los Altos answered with a score of its own as David Castillo connected with Isaiah Mendoza for an 81-yard scoring connection. A successful PAT, courtesy of Alessandro Mendez-Calderon, made the score 7-7, as quarter one came to a close.

Los Altos had a momentary lead in the second, when Gabriel “Water Boy” Gonzalez scored on a 37-yard run. Another Mendez- Calderon PAT made the score 14-7, Los Altos, with 9:40 remaining in the first half. St. Francis answered quickly, as Garrison again found running room for a 60-yard score. Garrison also converted the 2-Point PAT attempt, making the score 15-14, St. Francis, with 8:10 remaining in the half.

The Knights added another score, as Jack Jacobs connected with Alejandro Ramirez for a 35-yard scoring strike. Garrison added his second 2-Point PAT, making the score 23-14, St. Francis, as the first half came to a close.

St. Francis continued their scoring onslaught in the third quarter. Jacobs scored again, this time on a 1-yard run. Another 2-Point PAT attempt, this time by John Calmette, was successful, giving the Knights a 31-14 lead at the half way point of the games third quarter. St. Francis added another score in the period, as Garrison scored on a 1-yard jaunt. Another Geryak PAT made the score 38-14, after three quarters. Garrison finished the evening with 133 yards, three TD’s, and two successful 2-Point conversions.

The teams exchanged scores in the fourth quarter. St Francis’ score came on the feet of backup quarterback John Sanders, who scored on a 13 yard touchdown run. The Geryak PAT attempt was again successful, making the score 45-14, with 7:12 to play. Los Altos added the final score of the game, as Castillo connected with Nathan Aguilar for an 18 yard completion. The PAT attempt was unsuccessful, making the final score 45-20,

St. Francis’ next game is October 1 when the Golden Knights will host the Steele Canyon Cougars. Los Altos’ next contest is also scheduled for 10/1, when the Conquerors will travel to Charter Oak to battle the Chargers. Kickoff for both games is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
