If someone would have told you back in October that Northview’s Marcel Perez would be named the Coach of the Year you may have asked them if they had also seen the aliens land at the 50-yard line at Covina District Field.
The Vikings started the season 2-5. At that point Northview was just hoping to put together a couple of wins, finish the season at .500 and call it a respectable season. At least that’s what everybody thought. Instead the Vikings went on a historic run winning seven of their next eight games including a win over St. Anthony to win the CIF Division 10 Championship and a dramatic comeback victory over Colony in the first round of the 4-A State playoffs. Despite the early adversity, Perez stayed the course and guided his team to a memorable, remarkably successful season. It may not have seemed possible early but by the end of the year there was clearly no other choice. Marcel Perez is the MVS Coach of the Year for 2021.
@ ?
Hahahahaha. Man the haters can’t get over their own team not making the playoffs or this Northview Viking team getting better, healthy and hot at the absolute right time! CIF Champs, State Regional Champs, State Runners Up!! Congrats Coach Perez!! Well deserved!!
@ Moor: We’ll do our best, like always, and we’ll see what happens. At least we made the playoffs and had a good run while crawling out from under the shadow of Covid-19. That was a goal which most other programs were trying to achieve as well.
Alhambra went 3-2 in league and won five of its last eight games in the 2021 season. We were certainly on the upswing after a 1-4 start, so we’ll attempt to build from there.
At Ron lets have a winning season 1st
@ Question Mark: You’re too funny, man. I see where you’re going with that, but you could’ve come up with a better example.
With some good fortune concerning both the pandemic and the football action, maybe Alhambra can sneak up a division or two in 2022. Have a happy new year!
My all time favorite video was many years ago where a 15 year old kid was making fun and pushing around a mild, big fat kid. The punk finally pushed the wrong button and big guy grabbed the punk and slammed him head first straight into the ground like the kid was a tent stake. I have seen many fights from school grounds to bars to on the side of a street and have yet to see the little guy beat the big guy when both are sober and no weapons.
Lets be clear RV, this wasn’t Rocky getting up off the mat to face Apollo Creed, this was Rocky getting up having to face Pee Wee Herman.
@ sgv: One thing all three of the coaches (Perez, Bergstrom, and Zavala) have in common is that they made playoff runs with teams which had earlier appeared to be down for the count. Congratulations to Coach Perez on his well-deserved honor.
@Weighing In,
Say that to his face. You wouldn’t dare mess with Marcel Perez
A no brainer conidering they were the only team that won a ring from the sgv. At least it wasn’t Bergstrom or Zavala.
Winner of the prestigious award…I still act like I’m 10 when I’m jealous of others because I’ve never achieved anything worthy of praise goes to you Weighing In
Pound for pound, this man has to rate as perhaps the biggest winner in valley history.
