(San Marino) The San Marino Titans earned their first win of the 2022 football season Friday evening, beating the visiting Arroyo Knights 14-13, in front of a small, yet vocal crowd, at San Marino High School.
After a scoreless opening quarter, Arroyo opened the evening’s scoring when QB Joe Reyes rushed for a 4-yard score. The PAT was added by K Albert Lopez, making the score 7-0 with 2:23 remaining in the game’s opening half.
San Marino got on the board late in the third quarter when LB Coleman Manning recovered an errant Lopez offering and returned it ninety yards for a touchdown. The PAT attempt by K Ian Park was successful, making the score 7-7 as the third quarter came to a close.
Each team would score in the game’s final period. With 6:19 remaining in the contest, Arroyo RB, identified as “Nico O” scored on a one-yard TD blast. The PAT attempt was unsuccessful, making the score 13-7, Arroyo. San Marino would answer this score, when QB Henry Vitan, playing in relief of injured QB Chris Parwar, connected with WR Ryan Park for an 8-yard TD. The PAT by K Ian Park was again successful, giving San Marino the lead, 14-13, as time expired.
Next week’s action will find the Titans at home against the Rosemead Panthers. Arroyo will also be at home, playing one of their few home games in the friendly confines of B.L. Bergstrom Stadium, as they host the Schurr Spartans. Kickoff for both contests is scheduled for 7:00PM.
Really not a mu st win for either ; both squads are bell weather for beleaguered leagues and look to go undefeated in league despite current struggles . Playoff berth all but certainly in offing; so why worry?
@Mike Mooney, Congratulations to SM, Pretty exciting ending even if we were on the losing end. #55 Young Mooney looked good.
That 10th grader for SM #55 looked impressive on both sides of the ball….
You committed the cardinal sin when writing a game story. You buried the lead!
Tough loss for the Knights big win for the Titans.
How huge is next weeks match up between Arroyo and Schurr. Both teams 0-2 in a early must win game. The knights have dominated schurr in recent meetings but the Arroyo has struggled offensively so will things be different? I’ll be there on Friday!
