- The Angels’ Mike Trout was placed on the 10-day injured list with a broken wrist and then third baseman Anthony Rendon was removed from the Angels 8-5 loss to the San Diego Padres Tuesday night after fouling a ball off his leg. Two-way star Shohei Ohtani also left with a blister on the middle finger of his pitching hand.
- Dodgers’ pitcher Dustin May will undergo season ending elbow surgery on July 18 the team announced Tuesday.
- Joey Chestnut won his 16th Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July hot dog eating contest Tuesday in New York City.
- Former Arizona Cardinals head coach Vince Tobin passed away Monday at the age of 79. Tobin, who was hired as the head coach in 1996 went 28-43 in parts of five seasons. He led the Cardinals to a 20-7 upset win over the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild-Card playoff game in 1998.
- Chet Holmgren, the number two overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft out of Gonzaga, returned to the floor for Oklahoma City Thunder for the first time in 11 months Tuesday after missing the entire season with a right foot injury. He had 15 points 9 rebounds and 4 blocks.
- Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star guard Anthony Edwards signed five-year extension worth $260 million.
- The Dodgers lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates 9-7 Tuesday night to fall to 47-38 on the year, 2.5 games behind the first place Arizona Diamondbacks in the NL West.
- The LA Galaxy beat LAFC 2-1 before an MLS record crowd of 82,110 at the Rose Bowl Tuesday night.
- On this date in 1983 the Yankees’ Dave Righetti threw a no-hitter in a 4-0 win over the Boston Red Sox at Yankee Stadium.
