    @Just The Facts,

    “The kids care!”

    Some do, yes, but there’s also a lot who just spent Christmas Eve at their moms and then traveled to San Diego to spend Christmas Day with their dad. So now you have a kid who has been through both an emotional and physical roller coaster in a 2 day span who is stuffed on tamales who has to go and play in a basketball tournament. Not good for the kids at all.

    Families have to change their holiday traditions so a kid can make it to a wrestling tournament. 1 week off during holidays. They can skip the soccer coach’s Christmas Eve practice and the kids will be just fine.

    Here’s an idea for CIF that will never happen. I agree that there are too many watered down CIF and especially state championships. Does anyone really think that Bell Gardens HS should be playing more football games than USC?

    So my solution is to go ahead and actually ADD about 4 more divisions or so BUT keep it the divisions to 8 teams and start at the quarterfinals. Eliminate the regional game and just pair the top 8-9 divisions using Calpreps ratings for the state championships.

    So that means CIF is making even more money with more championships. While there would be more divisions, they would be more competitive. Sorry divisions 11-14 teams. And sorry at-larges, no more 2-8 teams in either.

    It would also limit the time for injury so you don’t have someone getting a catastrophic injury playing a week 16 game.

    While we’re at it, make winter sport teams take a mandatory 1 week break during the holidays. Does anyone really care about playing a tournament basketball game, a soccer game, a girls water polo game or going to a wrestling tournament the day after Christmas???

    Watching a Laker game these days is like visiting the grave of a family member who died years ago. It’s mighty sad, but you’ve just got to pay your respects and get on with the future, which in this town belongs to the Clippers.
