Lions Make a Statement in MVL; Rout Arroyo 41-7

By Rich Whittington

(El Monte) – El Monte made a powerful statement Friday evening, defeating the visiting Arroyo Knights, 41-7, at Lions Stadium, in a game that many believe would have a major impact in determining the eventual 2025 Mission Valley League Championship.

El Monte opened the scoring, when Aaron Rivera found the end-zone on a 4-yard
scoring blast. Rivera, who also handles the kicking duties for the Lions, successfully converted the PAT attempt, making the score 7-0, with 8:22 remaining on the clock.

The Lions added another score in the period, when Alex Aleman connected with Noah Munoz for a 29-yard touchdown. A second Rivera PAT made the score 14-0 as the first quarter came to an end.

El Monte continued their scoring in the second quarter, when Isaiah Standley took the
direct snap and ran 29 yards for then Lions third score of the evening. Rivera’s PAT attempt was successful, making the score 21-0 with 8:13 remaining in the opening half.

The Lions scored again when Aleman hooked up with Munoz for their second score of the evening…a 56-yard catch and run. A fourth Rivera PAT made the score 28-0 at halftime.

The third quarter provided more El Monte fireworks. Aleman and Munoz connected for
their third score of the evening on a 35-yard TD toss and it was 35-0.

The Lions onslaught continued in the third when Aleman connected with Jaime Hernandez for an 8-yard touchdown. The PAT was unsuccessful, making the score 41-0 with 10:23 remaining in the quarter.

It was a fine outing for Aleman, who completed 16 of 26 pass attempts for 288 yards, including the four scoring passes.

Arroyo scored in the third period as well. The Knights capped off a 13 play, 95-yard
scoring drive with a 12-yard toss from quarterback Angel Casillas to receiver Jose Penaloza. The PAT
was added by Paxton Parps, making the score 41-7 as the third quarter ended. This was the final score of the contest.

Next up for El Monte is a road trip to John Muir High School, where the Lions will play the Marshall Eagles. Arroyo will travel to South El Monte High School, where the Knights will battle the Eagles. Kickoff for both contests is scheduled for 7:00 PM.

I’ve said it before. It’s easy to coach talent. Not so easy to build. A legend? Yeah I agree. But now he’s on the other end. I guess we’ll see what’s he’s made of and we’ll see if he’s in for a rebuild.

I looked back a couple weeks and found zero. ??? i am not claiming to be correct but I suggest Anonymous is all of a sudden a huge EM supporter acting like he has been supporting EM since the start

LOL i usually do not do this but I am considering past comments by Anonymous to check how many positive comments he has made to SUDDENLY HIS LIONS? I may not have anything better to do than checking this out. If there are zero to very few positive comments from him to EM I will say so

By far the biggest beat down El Monte has given an Arroyo team coached by Singiser.

Can’t win without talent. Singiser had it all those years, not so much now. Wonder if he sticks around and tries to build or hangs em up again.

Good chance they lose against SEM but my biggest question is, does Mt View finally have enough talent to beat Arroyo? When’s the last time the Vikings beat them? 1980??
