[Cerritos] – Norwalk aired it out with two passing touchdowns and two scores on the ground in a 27-13 victory over Gahr Friday night.
The Gladiators got the ball first and made it look easy, capping off a 75-yard drive with a one-yard dive by Jaidyn Backus.
The Lancers got their chance on offense and took it to the air as Axel Bustamante hit Diego Cerritos with a 34-yard pass to tie the game up at seven.
Gahr had a rough time the rest of the first half on offense with a pair of punts and ran out of time for the half.
Da’Ron Walker carried the offense the second quarter and scored on a two-yard run for the Lancers.
Bustamante added to the lead late in the second quarter when he hit a wide-open Jesus Sanchez making the score 21-7 at half.
Norwalk got the ball first in the second half and was forced to go for a field goal which was blocked.
Midway through the third quarter the Gladiators cut into the lead after a 40-yard pass from Roman Acosta to Matthew Santos took them to the one-yard line Acosta called his own number and scored on a one-yard quarterback keeper putting the score at 21-13 after a blocked PAT.
Lancers increased the lead to 14 when Cerritos broke off a 40-yard run to paydirt. A blocked PAT made it 27-13.
Gladiators were stopped short of the end zone on their last drive.
Norwalk stayed perfect at 8-0 and faces Firebaugh next week at home while Gahr will be home to host Compton Early College.
