- The Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-1 Saturday night in Game 2 of the World Series behind a complete game by Yoshinobu Yamamoto. With the victory the Dodgers tied the series at 1-1. Game 3 is Monday night at Dodger Stadium.
- UCLA lost to Indiana 56-6 Saturday to fall 3-5 overall and 3-2 in the Big Ten.
- Former New York Jets center Nick Mangold, who made seven Pro Bowls and was twice named first-team All-Pro, passed away due to complications from kidney disease the team announced Sunday. He was 41.
- Texas A&M improved to 8-0 with a 49-25 win over LSU Saturday.
- Los Altos, Rowland and Rio Hondo Prep are all 9-0.
- Sierra League championship game: Charter Oak at Bonita, Thursday night, 7:00 PM.
- New York Giants rookie running back Cam Skattebo dislocated his right ankle Sunday in a 38-20 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles and could be out for the season.
- AP College Football Top 5: 1. Ohio State 2. Indiana 3. Texas A&M 4. Alabama 5. Georgia.
- LSU has informed head football coach Brian Kelly that he will be fired. Kelly, who is in his fourth season, has a $54 million buyout. LSU has lost of three of its last four games and is 5-3 overall.
- UCLA is 12th in the preseason AP College Basketball rankings. USC is not ranked in the Top 25.
The brief jolt of enthusiasm shown by UCLA football is officially over. Skipper and Jerry aren’t the answer to anyone’s prayers; they’re just a couple of well meaning mediocrities who will probably be thrown to the curb by whatever loser the Bruins hire next.
