  1. The United States beat Bosnia-Herzegovina 2-0 Wednesday night to advance to the round of 16 in the World Cup.
  2. Belgium overcame a 2-0 halftime deficit to beat Senegal 3-2 Wednesday to advance to the round of 16 in the World Cup. Other World Cup result: England 2 DR Congo 1.
  3. The Boston Celtics are trading Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers for Paul George, two first-round picks (2028, ’31) and two second-round picks (2028, ’30).
  4. The Lakers signed free agents Sandro Mamukelashvili, Quentin Grimes and Collin Sexton and traded for center Walker Kessler.
  5. The Lakers acquired Kessler, a 7-foot-2 center, from the Utah Jazz for unprotected first-round picks in 2031 and 2033 and first-round swaps in 2028 and 2030. Kessler will sign a four-year, $130 million contract with the Lakers.
  6. The Lakers outgoing ages: LeBron James – 41, Marcus Smart – 32, Luke Kennard – 30. Incoming ages: Mamukelashvili – 27, Sexton – 27, Grimes – 26, Kessler – 24.
  7. Marcus Smart signed a two-year, $13 million deal with the Houston Rockets and Luke Kennard inked a two-year, $13 million contract with the Phoenix Suns.
  8. Free agent center Mitchell Robinson, coming off an NBA title with the New York Knicks, signed a three-year, $47.4 million deal with the Boston Celtics.
  9. Dansby Swanson hit three home runs and had eight RBIs Wednesday to lead the Chicago Cubs to a 23-3 rout of the San Diego Padres Wednesday. The Cubs hit eight home runs on the day tying a franchise record set last year on July 4 against the St. Louis Cardinals.
  10. The New York Yankees have lost seven straight after a 6-2 defeat to the Detroit Tigers Wednesday.
