The TEN

(“The TEN” is not a top ten but ten items worth being included in “The TEN”)

—Belgium bounces Team USA from the World Cup, 4-1, to advance to the round of eight.

—“I just felt like they lost the game before they even stepped out onto the pitch. I’m not sure why, and I don’t know the reasons, but just from the beginning, just chasing, tentative, scared, just not confident on the ball, and I think big-time players—you wanted some of those big-time players to step up in big moments…I was a bit disappointed with Christian Pulisic. I think, whether he wants to be the star of this team or not, we didn’t see enough from him in this particular game and really the whole World Cup—little glimpses here and there.”—Carli Lloyd, U.S. Women’s National Team legend.

—“We were the better team. They made a couple more plays than us, but cranking up the intensity was not the issue. It was just they have a little quality in the final third, and we lacked the ability to make a play when we needed to…I’d rather be us than them. As good as Morocco is, I’d rather be us. I’m really proud of our guys, we went after the game. They’re hurting right now, but my goodness, I couldn’t be prouder.”—Canadian World Cup coach Jesse Marsch after Canada’s 3-0 loss to Morocco.4—Former El Monte quarterback Edward Dominguez II, who threw 43 touchdown passes and for 5,310 yards as the Lions starter in 2014 & 2015, turns 28 today.

—Lakers rookie Cameron Carr, #24 overall out of Baylor, is averaging 22.5 points and five boards per game in the California Classic Summer League.

—“Are leftists really melting down because Trump intervened to stop the suspension of a black US Men’s Soccer player?”—X/Twitter commenter “Jeff Charles, Asker of Questions.”

—“Also there’s a part of me that says the time for moral victories is over. We’ve left something on the table here, and that to me is disappointing…Look, I know that growth is not always linear. I think we’ve grown enough as a soccer nation where, we can be sick of moral victories. I’m sick of moral victories.”—Alexi Lalas, U.S. soccer legend on Team USA’s 4-1 loss to Belgium on Monday (7/6/26) night.

—The Los Angeles Dodgers lead the National League West by 14 games, and, with a 60-32 record, have the best record in the MLB.

—“I don’t like soccer and I don’t like Trump. But I’m still rooting for the US to kick the ball in the net more times than Belgium does without offsides being called. Why? Because I’m an American!!”—MVS commenter, “FBFan.”

—Former Virginia/NBA Center/Forward, Ralph Sampson turns 66 today.
