(Hacienda Heights) – Senior quarterback Alex Han threw three touchdown passes and ran for two scores to lead the Glen A. Wilson Wildcats to a 37-7 victory over the visiting Alhambra Moors in the teams’ season opener Friday night. The lefthander completed eight of 13 throws for 179 yards and rushed five times for 38 yards in an impressive all-around performance.

Han’s favorite targets were junior wide receivers Jacob Lewis and Gabriel Guevara; Lewis caught three passes for 95 yards and two touchdowns, and Guevara hauled in four throws for 71 yards and a score. Junior running back Edwin Rodriguez led the Wildcats’ ground attack with 10 carries for 119 yards.

The Wildcats, who rolled up 432 yards in total offense while holding Alhambra to 113 yards from scrimmage, built a 37-0 lead before the end of the third quarter. The game finished with a running clock in the final period, when the Moors finally managed a touchdown on a three-yard run by senior Chris Aguilar.

Alhambra alternated Moses Llamas and Josh Calderon at quarterback. Llamas, a senior, completed four of 10 passes for 36 yards and carried the ball four times for 30 yards to lead the Moors in rushing. Calderon, a sophomore, connected on three of four passes for just 21 yards.

Neither team committed a turnover. 

The Moors missed a scoring opportunity when they trailed by a margin of only 7-0 early in the second quarter. After driving 70 yards to the Wilson 2, Alhambra appeared to score on a run by Llamas, but the touchdown was nullified by a holding penalty. Two plays later, on 4th-and-goal, the Moors turned the ball over on downs when Llamas’ pass to the end zone was batted down by a Wilson defender.

The Wildcats then proceeded to score 16 points in the second quarter and 14 more in the third to put the game away.

Wilson will host Artesia this Friday night, while Alhambra will have two weeks to prepare for its home opener against San Marino on Saturday, Sept. 5.
