3—Northview HC Marcel Perez, who lost his father this week, intends to coach the Vikings in tonight’s game with the La Serna Lancers.
4—Seattle Seahawks QB Sam Darnold left last night’s season opener after the first series with a hip injury. Newly acquired New England Patriots WR A.J. Brown left in the third quarter with four targets, three catches, and 26 receiving yards.
5—Former Los Angeles Kings HC and longtime NHL/ESPN analyst Barry Melrose died yesterday at the age of 70.

I do not personally know the Servite coach, but I do know several 70 to 80 year old coaches and former coaches that would coach circles around most, if not all, coaches in their 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s.
They choose not to coach because they have put their time in or they are assisting a younger coach who is worth spending time with.
Servite hired this old man to hold down the fort while the school searched for a younger, more permanent replacement of Chris Reinart. If the Friars waited any longer, they would suffer considerable loss of top players via transfer. If you think 71 is a fine age to be coaching football outside of the Pop Warner category, you probably think 80 is a cool age for U.S. president. Males in this country drop dead, on average, at age 74, so maybe, just MAYBE, a guy should start winding things down at age 70, right?
