(Alhambra) – After two straight losses to start the 2026 football season, the Alhambra Moors got on the right track Friday night with a 35-0 victory over the winless Azusa Jaguars.
Alhambra delivered an effective downfield passing game for the first time this season, as sophomore quarterback Josh Calderon completed nine of 14 passes for 180 yards and two touchdowns. Junior wide receiver Steven Escobar caught four of those throws for 104 yards and a touchdown, while senior slot man Zack Chacon made three catches for 49 yards and a score.
The Moors also rushed for 106 yards against the Jaguars; senior running back Chris Aguilar led the way with eight carries for 69 yards and two touchdowns. Junior Nathan Rabadan ran two yards for a score on the first play of the fourth quarter, and he set up an Alhambra touchdown with a 34-yard punt return shortly before halftime.
The Moors led, 21-0, at the intermission and scored in each of the remaining quarters to win going away. The game finished with a running clock after Rabadan scored Alhambra’s final tally with 11:50 to go.
Alhambra’s defense held the Jaguars to only 62 total yards; Azusa quarterback Cesar Alvarez completed nine of 26 passes for 34 yards, and his team rushed for just 28 yards. The Jaguars staged their biggest threat early in the second quarter, when they drove to the Alhambra 24, but they ended up turning the ball over on downs. Azusa got into Alhambra territory only twice the entire game.
Penalties were the main thing that slowed down the Moors at all, as they drew a total of 10 flags for 90 yards.
