Anthony Mirano scored four touchdowns for South El Monte.

(South El Monte) – Running back Anthony Mirano scored four touchdowns to lead South El Monte to a 37-0 shutout of El Monte in the Griffin Bowl Friday night in at The Swamp.
The game started off promising for the Lions when on the first play of the game Juan Juarez picked off a Michael Maldonado pass, but they couldn’t turn it into points.
South El Monte went down the field with a big 33-yard reception from Christopher Rodriguez that put them on the one-yard line and Mirano took it the rest of the way for his first score. The Eagles led 6-0 after a missed extra point.
A bad snap on a punt gave the Eagles a short field and Mirano scored again – this time from nine yards out making it 13-0.
El Monte quarterback Luis Gonzalez then went to the air and South’s Riley Leon intercepted the pass and took it 50-yards to paydirt.
After another Lions punt Mirano scored his third touchdown of the first half making it 25-0 at half.
Maldonado went back to the air again and hit Eligh Ybarra for a 22-yard touchdown. Mirano found the end zone for the fourth time early in the fourth quarter to start a running clock.
El Monte struggled all game in the air and on the ground. Gonzalez went 10 of 35 for 113 yards and an interception. The Lions only had 22-yards rushing as a team.
Maldonado was 6 for 9 for 116-yards with a touchdown and interception and he also ran for 79-yards. Mirano finished with 11 carries for 57 yards and four scores. Rodriguez had 52 yards receiving.
Eagles travel to El Rancho next week while El Monte has a bye week before they face old foe Arroyo.
