By Alex A. Gonzalez Inglewood —For the first time in the building’s history, the LA Bowl, played at Sofi Stadium, hosted its first high school football game between the Downey Vikings and the Warren Bears, one of Southern California’s biggest rivalries Friday night.
Chino Off and Running in League, 38-25
By Tim Peterson (Covina) – Diego Ogata ran for 153 yards and three touchdowns and threw for another score to lead Chino to a 38-25 win over Covina in the Sierra League opener.
Schurr Buries Alhambra, Closes in on Almont Crown
By Ron Vrooman (Montebello) – Alhambra fans had reason to hope for an upset victory when Julian Venegas Khavari hit wide receiver Brandon Kelly with a 55-yard touchdown pass less than two minutes into last Friday night’s game against the Schurr Spartans.
Monrovia Hangs Around and Wins, 49-45
By Rich Whittington (La Canada) – The Monrovia Wildcats played from behind for the entire evening, but managed to secure a victory, 49-45, over the host La Canada Spartans Friday evening, in what turned out to be a classic Rio Hondo League battle.
Burroughs in Control in Pacific
By Tim Peterson (Arcadia) – Burroughs jumped out to a 27-0 halftime lead and rolled to a 41-7 win over Arcadia Thursday night at Arcadia. With the win the Bears remained unbeaten in the Pacific as they continue their quest for a league title.
Knights Leave Vikings Feeling Dazed and Confused, 63-14
By Rich Whittington (Rosemead) – The Arroyo Knights wasted little time securing a victory Thursday evening, defeating the visiting Mt. View Vikings, 63-14, in front of a very vocal Homecoming crowd at Rosemead High School’s Panther Field.
