@ron coach Eric been at Alhambra for awhile now and the thunderbirds have also been gone for awhile his kept the same staff for the must part so either there’s not enough attention being paid to the lower level teams or they aren’t developing correctly at the lower levels so that when they get to varsity there ready to play
CABBIE; DO you ever consider the previous staff is just much better than new staff? “all they had to do is keep program going? you think there is no variation of talent in coaching
“tbh, let them sit out till league or untill they return 100%… dont rush… come back full strength so we can whoop Ls”
bruh you couldn’t even whoop Monrovia lmao
ranch 18 La Serna lives in your head rent-free. You wish you had the team and coaches they have. Cant wait till they score 50 plus on your team
@TheRanch18
All I read was “El Rancho sucks but I’m ride or die so whatever” lol
Here’s my predictions in set order on how I believe this year is gonna shape out in the MVL. League Records included.
1.) South El Monte 5-0
2.) Arroyo 4-1
3.) El Monte 3-2
4.) Rosemead 2-3
5.) Gabrielino 1-4
6.) Mtn. View 0-5
Arroyo and El Monte can easily flip flop 2 and 3.
I am curious to see this too! I don’t think he leaves since he probably made promises to Garcia and he’s only a JR. But since he’s not a good coach and an excellent recruiter, I bet we’ll see Garcia add only about 5-10 lbs next year. Not improve on mechanics unless he goes to a QB trainer! We’ll see another offseason of hype with some new transfers at skill spots. And then only difference now is probably scheduling one decent game and a couple soft ones so he can get a few W’s then lose in league or playoffs to a team that is almost the same level as them lol!!
@ Moor for life: A restart of the Thunderbirds or the creation of a totally new youth football program in Alhambra has been rumored. I hope some sort of program materializes because it’s sorely needed.
A lot of money has been spent on the athletic facilities at San Gabriel High, including Matador Stadium. Mark Keppel has Aztec Arena, which was completed in 2010. Keppel’s football stadium is much older, but it was renovated around that time and is still in pretty good condition.
In contrast, Alhambra High for decades has experienced a level of neglect from the school district similar to what occurred at Keppel back in the 1960’s and early ’70’s.
No school in any neighborhood should receive that sort of treatment. I’ve never understood why it has been so difficult for the people running AUSD to adopt an evenhanded approach toward all of the high schools and their respective communities. The elementary schools have generally fared better.
@ Detached Observer: I’m as disappointed as you are with Alhambra’s performance so far this season, but we’ll continue trying to eke out a few wins. Our character is definitely being put to the test now.
@ NWO: I’ll believe the story about the return of the Alhambra Thunderbirds when they actually start fielding teams again. The collapse of that organization a decade ago has been a substantial setback for the AHS football program.
We may finally be getting some action on upgrading the athletic facilities at AHS, but I won’t believe that, either, until construction gets underway. Shame on the district administration and the school board for allowing the Alhambra High campus and the football side of Moor Field to deteriorate for decades.
@ Anonymous (the one or two who continually bash Alhambra): Read my comments on the thread below the story on the AHS-La Salle game. I’m not going to repeat myself here.
Agree , be happy with improved performance and wins ! Kids deserve some campus swag. Still I not surprised with victories over Kep and Gab ; Alhambra looks like a mess this year (sorry Ron!) wouldn’t have thought that was win, but they are disappointing.
Poly game was to determine RHL cellar dweller last year , and likely the same this year. Four wins would be great accomplishment as well as keeping Monrovia and South Pas from going to running clock.
@Anonymous AKA TheRanch’sTroll #1 #2 #3 … man I cant keep up…
do you do anything other than deam about ER?
can we know…. are you a alumni? didnt get playing time … sour about something that happened to you in HS … ??? so you ran up the hill to hide?
Idc what excuse you want to hear…. ER did not have starters missing only for first series or half LOL… if you were at the game… you seen the captains take the coin flip and TWO of ours were dressed in regular clothes. Starting QB missing will affect any team . And the other kids who were injured.
tbh, let them sit out till league or untill they return 100%… dont rush… come back full strength so we can whoop Ls !
NEVER THE LESS
CONGRATULATIONS MONTEBELLO! no excuses , you came out and DOMINATED.
moving forward lets change some things about this ANNUAL RIVALRY
1. LETS MAKE A TROPHY… people don’t understand these two schools have played each other every year for decades.. I noticed on ticket sales you guys called it “Battle for the Bridge”… love it!
2. You guys can NOT serve pizza unless its Rio’s …. idk what crap you had but I was seriously disappointed when I got my pizza… didn’t even finish it.
GoodLuck the rest of the season… to the ONLY school that matters in MONTEBELLO… lol… schurr WHO?
and hey Anonymous >>> FTP Ls <<< SellOutHill
Better record against terrible opponents, Monrovia by 35
I know they are not going to have a perfect season or anything close to it…….
Temple City is 3-0 and has a better record than Monrovia..
Did you think that would happen on the first day of the season?
Sure I know, sleeping beauty will wake up being kissed by the stable boy and not the prince but enjoy it while you can get it, That is a good motto for life.
ER you say that everytime you lose. The other team is always better. ER is not that team.
Absolutely not true, credit to Montebello for winning, but ER had 5 starters not dressed due to injury including the starting qb. I’ve always said next man up needs to be ready, Montebello was the better team last night.
@Anon??
You guys took it on the chin like champs yesterday!!! Your starters sat out the first series and that was it. Give credit to MHS finally. They deserve it. But I know the ER faithful have a hard time with being humble. Anyways, keep playing those backups. Lol
Maxie will bail after this year
What happened to the hype of the ranch after week 1🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Maxie stole Jake Garcia… Has done nothing at any High School he has coaches at… 🛑
Garcia should have stayed at Cantwell. Maxie has done nothing.
Try and win with your own kids, thats a sign of a good coach, you build your program over 1-2 years. These guys come in and promise the world,so when they leave you end up with a team like pasadena!
Weres @ron with the excuses for coach Eric at Alhambra. Schurr looks to be the class of the almont the rest of the league is wide open no dominant team after that
Awesome exposing the ER backups.
Teams like BP and Arroyo should start winning more once they hit league. Don’t know if that will be the case for Don Lugo. BP and Arroyo will be probably get into the D14 playoffs and make a run. The coaches will then pat themselves on the back and talk about how great they are. All while totally ignoring the fact that before they got there the previous coaches had them in higher divisions every year.
It does take time to build a program. Thing is the program at BP was already built. All Maxie had to do was keep it going. Same situation at Arroyo with Argo. When theres a proven formula for success, you don’t change it. But ego says otherwise.
Johnny Argo got his first win as head coach, beating Bell Gardens 27-7. While BG appears to be just a breath above awful Keppel in the Almont this year, a win’s a win and it was badly needed.
Let’s go oilers !! Exposed the el rancho dons for who they really are. Good job Pete !,rolling into next week.
He took over a semi final team that had a bunch of returners and brought in guys to help and replace those seniors that did leave.
Takes time to build a program gotta give maxie at least 2 years
Great recruiters! Average coaches!
Detached observer completely agree. C’mon Rosemead!
Give Matt V and Maxie credit??? Credit for what?
They are fantastic recruiters, that’s the honest truth. They are great at that! There is absolutely no denying that.
Now having said that, there is nothing they deserve a whole bunch of credit for when it comes to actually coaching. They are known for winning a few games, more wins than games they lose! But how many wins come against teams who just simply don’t match up. A lot of them are that way. Both of their successes are because they’re more talented than other teams. Whenever those coaches play against teams that are of similar skill level, they don’t win very much. Wonder why!!!
All I can say is what a joke some programs are. All these promises during off season and still nothing. Let’s go back to letting kids play multiple sports during the year instead of making them go through unnecessary camps all off season to go 6-8
Man it’s been such a let down with guys i read about all over twitter all summer Baldwin park you have to Coach can’t just bring a few guys and think it’s going to happen. Because I’ll tell you what last years coach and staff would have had them 4-0. Don Lugo who didn’t play tonight but look so underwhelming at 1-2.
Cantwell 35 San Gabriel 14 Final
The Matadors gave up 14 points on lost onside kick offs.
Freakin Gabrielino … SMH
People think what Matty v, milvon James and maxie do is easy it’s not just because you got talent doesn’t mean you’re going to win you got to give those guys credit. Milvon James has proven it as a head coach, Maxie we will see how it goes at BP. I foresee Matty V becoming the head man at Nogales at some point there head coach was looking to leave this past offseason
St.Paul vs Downey next week big game
I heard talk/rumors of the Alhambra Thunderbirds making a return next year????
Amazing that some loyal fans still attend! This has to be nadir for once proud Panther program. There are still possible wins vs Gab and MV , but at this point they are likely underdogs in both ; otherwise staring at 0-10 season . School hit fork in the road after Castaneda left and direction chosen has made all the difference
Can’t believe that’s what you want !
Rosemead coach from Marty V , Sierra Vista coaching tree. Look what happened there
At Alhambra We need to go back to the good old days and recruit Pasadena and el Serrano kids that was successful for coach Gil. On a serious note there needs to be a feeder program started in the city of Alhambra!!! And when the school district going to upgrade athletic facilities at Alhambra, I mean keppel and Sg have better facilities
Can we fire coach Eric already and go get us a real coach like Matty V or milvon James
First tean in awhile that scheduled up and not just competes but wins. Nice going.
Bishop Amat loss, but what a game. BA still #1 team in SGV
Now im wondering how good is Sp
I only saw the second half, but i was told they were up 21-0
Bassett 35 Duarte 15
attended Rosemead game
two late Panther TDs were just lipstick on a pig,
Hope Rosemead QB recovers from his injury by next week
FINAL SCORE DMAC 41
ROSEMEAD 14
Angelou 28 Rosemead 0 Halftime
This is the game they rescheduled from LaSalle and we’re supposed to win.
Yikes !
