Agree. But their base defense which has 3 slow DT type guys on the line trying to contain and put pressure definitely isn’t working. I’m just a fan that like football and knows a little bit. 6-4 is great start for the program and maybe a at large in D14 would make history and look real good. 4 MVL teams made it last year.

Upset parent – Sad to see such a poor display of sportsmanship or lack thereof by the San Marino head coach. Going for a two point conversion with a 40 point lead, passing the ball most of the second half with a running clock, and going with a no huddle offense on the final drive to run up the score rather than doing the right thing and going into a victory formation. TC coaches showed some class and still shook hands after the game. I went looking for SM head coach after the game to have a “conversation” with him. Hopefully SMHS admin will do that since it reflects negatively on their program.

Take into consideration that Schurr QB is playing on a good team in a pathetic league this year (SG is clear #2) with lukewarm preseason while Cal played strong array of D8 D9 schools preseason and his weapons are limited . I’m not saying that he’s not better , but put things in perspective and be fair !

    @ Sportsman,
My coaching days are behind me, but trust me. I know how to develop athletes. For a school like MV to change there has to be many things to go right, the first one is they need to surround themselves with coaches that care deeply about the school and community. Coaches that take deep pride in what they do, focused on the future. Establish rapport with local feeder schools and provide football camps to these up and coming kids. Establish a genuine relationship with the parents and community, explain what their goals are and share the future goal and plans. The next thing is all MV athletic coaches need to be on the same page, meaning learn to share athletes with one another. There’s many sports that are seasonal and when in season that sport is priority. Then once a genuine school pride is establish you bring all teachers into the mix and get them aligned with each others goals. Working in synergy and with the same goal in place. The point is if a school really wants to change its culture it needs to happen from the inside out. Not just a certain sport. Nothing is impossible until you think outside the box. I’m willing to bet that successful schools work this way they’re not just good football schools but overall everyone works toward common goals. All it takes is for someone to care enough to make it happen. The thing is who’s that person to care deeply enough to make a change in a school like MV and community.

Rosemead and Gabrielino got into a cross town tussle that took them into the all weather track. Refs had to call a stop to the game in the 4th. The battle for last place took place last night for the MVL. Its been an emotional football season for both squads. No one wants to be last. lets keep the fight inside the gridiron between the hash marks. Both teams had 3 in a half quarters to let out their frustration, let alone 9 weeks prior to make a statement. Rosemead program took a turn for the worse by the transfer situation, and Gabrielino with a new 1st year head coach looks flustered. Cheap shots all night took its toll.

Last time MV made CIF playoffs was Fall of 1997. Frank Alonzo received Coach of the year honors Memo Jasso was the QB and Christian Salazar All purpose back. They lost to Montebello in the 1st round of playoffs. Montebello was the 1st seed in their league. It was a close game.

    That Same year
Arroyo was 1st seed and lost to Los Altos in Semi-Final game at Bernstein stadium in 2OT. The great Kenny Smith was at QB.

South El Monte placed 2nd with Aguilar at QB

Let me know if you need more Details I could go further.

The temple city rams should feel ashamed of themselves wasting a talent that you don’t see often. Judah douglas has to get the ball and thats it. But thats not all he need ay least a little help from his team and coaching staff. Every time he gets the ball he has to make a play by himself with no help. The coaches on the temple city rather use him as a decoy which is the dumbest thing ever. Magbe sometimes yes but all the time. Judah douglas might as well transfer and get the appreciation he deserves.

Great point. It’s a process. Let these kids win first. Brick by brick. Have a winning record, make football fun again, get more kids out for football. That changes the culture. Then you can start scheduling tougher. Let’s be happy for them.

It’s not gonna happen over night, obviously at MV. You build the winning show them how to win then go from there. MV is literally at bottom 10-15 team in CIF. But they don’t even know how to win after they score a touchdown yet celebrating like they won the game already. So you would rather have them 2-7 right now with still no hope (to this generation of kids) or 6-3 with a small chip on their shoulders having a winning record and a little more guts. I know what you’re saying but this is a program that has never been good and won’t be till they teach these kids how to win.

@Sportsman – Sounds like those interviews are intense. The better question is how can you drop the ball with a decent profile DC coordinator? Especially if they show interest at a school like MV. Sounds like they gave him the old, “You’re over qualified shrug”. I have no idea the process of hiring coaches, or who conducts these interviews. I would assume the schools Admin is aware of such interviews. If they’re not then someone is dropping the ball big time. Lets look at the points given up in past few games 34 to El Monte, 63 to Arroyo, and 64 to Rosemead, 20 to Gabrielino. Many people online say this is the weakest MVL in years. It sure looks like they fumbled at the 1 yard line with 5 seconds left in the 4th qtr with this one.

Will a staff / bunch of coaches who never study the game really help players fundamentally? Did MV’s head coach play college football? Or any other college sport? Cover 1, cover 11 with 2 free safeties on sure passing downs? 61 defensive strategy use several plays during game? Sure! @Watcher the whole point of pre-season is to get you ready for league, to get challenged and prepare you. However, if you have a weak pre-season schedule you’re not gonna get put in difficult scenarios and when league comes you’re left getting embarrased. Watcher you’re concerned about MV not having athletes, here’s a thought why don’t you develop these kids. Athletes are not gonna fall from the sky, and make you a better program. Like you say you’re the bottom team in a MVL that is at its worst in years. But hey you’re 6-3, yay!!! What’s the point after getting schooled by your cross town rival and miss the playoffs. You’re giving kids false hope, when the truth is any decent Coach with a half brain can beat you down by halftime. You can take that to the Bank

idk about that, I see your point as a political stand but then what are we showing the kids… they are tired of getting an DELETED whooping then they need to put more work in the off season… SIMPLE.
Same goes for parents… if anyone is tired of LaSellOut winning every year then change starts from your child first. Get them to work harder in off season.. dont wait for coach to “organize” everything … I cant stand that stupid school on the hill but you gotta give the kids kudos where its earned and MOST of those kids are putting extra work in the off season.. without any coaches… then they walk into season and make it easy for the coaches to focus on COACHING. open enrollment or not… it starts at HOME.
I hope the other 4teams dont do that SISSY poop style… f get better and stop blaming others

and LS still sucks! look at the kids and parents that fly over there for a EASY W… what does that tell you about them… LAME SELLOUTS

Got to throw my 2 cents in on the El Rancho situation since it’s talked about so much on here.

ER fans, you have a good program that is having a bad year. It happens sometimes. Sounds like the injury bug hit you guys hard. Sure, they’re part of the game, but when your best players go down, bad things are gonna happen as a result.

With that being said, I’ve always felt ER fans need to chill on the boards here. It doesn’t do your program any good. Ever heard of the phrase “speak softly and carry a big stick”? Well I don’t think ER fans have heard that before. Got to respect the passion, but you’re putting your players and coaches in a bad spot with online chatter and that’s not good for your program.

Losing to La Serna doesn’t mean “El Rancho is garbage god awful” like Anonymous said. It just points out the need for La Serna to go to a more competitive league. As a matter of fact the El Rancho game was closer than La Serna’s games with Whittier and Santa Fe but after 35 point differential, it’s all the same.

La Serna fans seem to hate ER. It’s probably because of the fan chatter, but it’s not a good look to try and go after Ranch18 or anyone else. You guys need to be more concerned with teams like Warren, Yorba Linda, Corona Del Mar, etc. because that is your level and likely the type of team you’ll see in the playoffs. If you do not want to change leagues, at least show some class to the teams you beat up on every week.

I advocate the formation of what might be called the DEL REAL league, where Whittier, ER, Cal and Santa Fe all boycott their yearly game with La Serna. The four boycotters would compete for a single playoff berth (same as they do now anyway). Those who feel this is cowardly need to understand that the current ‘contests’ between La Serna and their league foes are like pitting Duane (the rock) Johnson against Andrew Garfield. CIF is apparently OK with that matchup…it’s time to tell them you are not.

MAN OH MAN!!!! parents in the stands are wondering why the coach is doing what he is doing?

ALERT THE PRESS! CALL AN EMERGENCY MEETING! This is the first program in the history of high school football who has parents who think they know more than the coach!!!!

Now if someone from the crowd yelled “Come on Coach!” or “Make a Tackle” or “Throw the Ball Coach!” or “Mix it up Coach!” then the coach should be in some real trouble and administration should meet with him ASAP to get him right!!!!!

If you can’t tell, I wrote the above in my sarcasm font.

Please tell all of the rest of the SGV where are the great QBs and WRs on MVs team. They don’t have the talent to go out there and just pass. They have to be physical and move the ball with pop passes here and there. Also a soft preseason Mr.Parent they are the soft preseason. They get booked for homecoming and the warm up for league. Who should they have booked? Northview? Schurr? Los Altos? These kids have to get Ws and build from there, that soft schedule equals the MVL outside of South and Arroyo. Congratulate on the 5 victories they got on the field which is an improvement and move on to hopefully improving next year. If there is anything that should be changed it’s the defense they run which is for a team with athletes which is what they don’t have I think a 4/3 or 4/4 would have worked great for them moving those LBs down to DE not having to DT with no speed at DE trying to contain. Plus hopefully it runs smoother next year without 22s parents in the stands.
