(El Monte)- Elijah Peters threw two second half touchdowns in Gabrielino’s 28-10 win over Mtn.View Friday night at Vikings Stadium.
Both teams had three and out on their first possessions, but the Eagles were able to run through the Viking defense on their second possession and scored on a 2-yard touchdown run by Brandon Tsan to make it 7-0 late in the first quarter.
Early in the second Gabrielino got on the board again with a 1-yard Lorenzo Mena dive into the end zone making it 14-0 at halftime.
Mountain View came out strong the second half pounding the ball down field with Jose “Nacho” Zamora and capped it off with a 35-yard field goal by Chris Gonzalez to make it 14-3.
Vikings Chris Cervantes intercepted a Mark Winchell pass but missed a field goal to stop the drive.
Eagles answered back when Peters found a wide open Cameryn Matthews from 40-yards out to make it 21-3 early in the fourth quarter.
Mountain View kept the ball on the ground with Zamora and took it into the end zone and it was 21-10 midway through the fourth quarter.
Gabrielino’s defense showed up and Mena picked off an Xavier Yanez pass and Peters threw a bomb to Matthews to make it 28-10 with 1:30 left.
Zamora finished with 139-yards and his touchdown for Mtn.View, Cervantes added another 41-yards on the ground and an interception on defense.
Eagles Peters finished 7 of 12 for 109-yards and two touchdown, Calvin Cheng added 50-yards on the ground.
View (3-3, 0-1) travels to Arroyo next week, well Gabrielino (6-0, 1-0) faces South El Monte at “The Swamp”.
