1.) The Los Angeles Lakers amnesty forward Metta World Peace; sign guard Nick Young.

2.) Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig snubbed from the All-Star Game. Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman wins the spot Puig was in contention for.

3.) New Jersey Devils 30-year-old star winger Ilya Kovulchuk retires with 12 years and $77 million left on his contract.

4.) The New Jersey Nets agree to sign forward Andrei Kirilenko.

5.) Chauncey Billups agrees to return to the Detroit Pistons for a two-year, five-million dollar deal.

6.) The San Antonio Spurs sign guard Manu Ginobili for two years. Spurs’ general manager RC Buford called Ginobili “an integral part of the Spurs family and the San Antonio community for the past decade.”

7.) On this day in 1996, Minnesota Twins hall of fame center fielder Kirby Puckett announced his retirement immediately due to glaucoma.

8.) The Dodgers earn their fifth straight win against the Rockies by the score of 6-1. This bumps their record up over .500 for the first time since April 15.

9.) On this day in 1901, Cy Young recorded his 300th win. He won a total of 511 games in his legendary career.

10.) Kobe Bryant regarding whether he will take a pay cut of any sort in order to make space for other players in the near future: “Nah. I’m going to try and get as much as I possibly can.”
