2.) Former Whittier Christian, current Air Force Academy, wide receiver Cody Bronkar is 18 today.

3.) Scott Van Slyke has hit .252 this season with six home runs and 16 Rbis in five different stints with the Dodgers this season. He’s currently hitting .347 with 12 homers and 47 Rbis at Albuquerque.

4.) “That’s it, that’s it right there. You’re gonna run the spread, you got to throw the seam.”—El Monte offensive coordinator Brian Tabatabai watching Whittier Christian quarterback Ryan Esslinger last Friday in the scrimmage between the schools.

5.) Michigan wide receiver Braylon Edwards was the third overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. Today he is 30 and unemployed after being cut by the New York Jets.

6.) On this date in 1982 Oakland A’s outfielder Ricky Henderson stole his 119th base of the season to break St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Lou Brock’s record of 118 stolen bases in 1974. Henderson finished the season with 130 steals, and the record still stands.

7.) Shout out to El Monte Lions center Brandon Baiza who herniated a disc in his back in July and will miss his senior season. All our best.
