There was very little consensus amongst the staff, so the results are by plurality (who got the most votes). Probably about nine, maybe ten schools here are legitimate threats to go the distance. September will separate the wheat from the chafe.
- La Mirada– All the high profile commits, verbals, and personalities need to be translated for four quarters.
- Downey– The tools are there for another title run, but how do the Vikes handle success?
- Norwalk– “So tired, so tired, tired of waiting for you…” Lancers need to step through open window.
- La Serna– The Buffalo Bills of the Southeast. This team has had a great run, but lack of “ring” will seal it to obscurity.
- Santa Fe– After 2012 playoff run, the Chiefs will be on everyone’s radar.
- Los Altos– Speaking of open windows…
- Mayfair– We’ll find out how good after the season opener with Downey.
- Dominguez– This team could rocket to the top…or fall far out of sight.
- Burbank– A running back, a quarterback, but do they have enough in the trenches to think semi-finals?
- Muir– “Hardy knows his business like few others in high school football.”—Area football coach on Mustang HC John Hardy.
- West Covina– WestCo out of the top 10? Yeah, stuff happens.
- Diamond Ranch– Hanging on to 12 by a thread after poor scrimmage against San Dimas.
- Paramount– Easy to love in September/October…but can the feel the love in November?
- Diamond Bar– If this team can get physical, they will climb.
- Bonita– Might not be Walter Payton, but it doesn’t hurt to have Jake Payton.
- Crescenta Valley– There hasn’t been this much opportunity to climb in the Pacific League in a dozen years. QB Brian Gadsby makes the Falcons a threat.
- Bellflower — Andrew Gose, Swain Williams, Sebastian Sanchez and a strong supporting cast.
- Burroughs– When you have “bubbas” in the trenches you always have a chance.
- Arcadia– Slot in top 20 attributed to a heck of a coaching staff and a talented passer in Joey Harmon.
- Rowland– VillaTheDevil loves this team.
