The Spartans Down BG

By Alex Gonzalez

(Montebello) — Schurr running back Eric Perez rushed for a team high 85-yards and scored one touchdown in the Spartans 10-0 win over the Bell Gardens Lancers Friday night at Ken Davis field.

To start the game, Giovanni Rodriguez returned the opening kick off deep into Lancer territory. It only took the Spartans five plays to score three. Schurr’s early 3-0 didn’t change until its last possession of the first half until Perez scored the game’s only touchdown with 2:23 left in the second.

Bell Gardens had opportunities to score throughout the game. The Lancers offense missed scoring opportunities and the special teams added miscues of its own. BG had a chance to score late in the fourth but was short an inch on a fourth down play with less than two minutes to play in regulation.

As a team, the Spartan running attack accumulated for 170 yards between three backs, and scored one touchdown. Alongside Perez, Abel Troncoza and Noah Quintreo all contributed for the Spartans.
