(Bellflower)- Norwalk came into Friday night’s game against the Bellflower Buccaneers sitting atop the Suburban League standings, 2-0, 6-0 overall. It was homecoming night at Ron Yary Field, but it didn’t matter to the Lancers as they steam rolled the Bucs 62-14.
Bellflower was looking to build upon a two game win streak, with last week’s win coming against Cerritos, 59-8. However they ran into a Norwalk team that has been dominating opponents all season long, outscoring opponents in its first eight games 278 to 34.
On their opening drive, on the first play from scrimmage, the Lancers Rashaad Penny raced 82-yards for a score go up 7-0. This would foreshadow how the rest of the night would go for Norwalk.
With 7:55 left in the first Norwalk’s Jesse Lotts took the ball straight up the middle and scored from 35-yards out, Lancers led 14-0.
Just when it felt as if the rout was on, the Bucs answered Norwalk’s score when Sebastian Sanchez hooked-up with receiver Keshawn Crouch to cut the Lancers lead, 14-7. This would be the highlight of the Bucs homecoming night.
The Lancers found the end zone quick and often to score 34 unanswered points to place the game out of reach for Bellflower and further cementing their place as the top team in the Suburban League 3-0, 7-0 overall.
***Penny had a phenomenal game rushing for 281 yards on 15 carries and five touchdowns. The Lancers Ryan McDowell had a great game as rushing for 127 yards on nine carries and one touchdown
***Next week Norwalk hosts Glenn, which may require a running clock to start after the 1st quarter.
***Bellflower looks to rebound and plays at Artesia next Friday.
