(South El Monte)- Rosemead running back Alec Zavala scored twice, once by ground, once by air, and rushed for 113 yards as the Panthers hammered South El Monte 37-7 on Friday night at “The Swamp”.
The victory was the Panthers sixth straight and keeps them on pace for a Week Ten showdown with Arroyo for the Mission Valley League title. Zavala has now rushed for 805 yards and seven touchdowns on the season.

Mead broke open a close 14-7 halftime game with 23-unanswered points, led by the rushing of Zavala.
*** Rosemead quarterback Steven Nava went 8 of 16 for 116-yards and a touchdown.
*** Alec Zavala finished with eleven carries for 119-yards a touchdown. He also added two catches for 20-yards and a score. All but two of Zavala’s touches came in the second half.
*** Jaime Michel went 6 of 18 for 83-yards one touchdown and two interceptions for the Eagles at quarterback.
*** Johnathan Chavez and Jack Holguin collected the interceptions for the Panthers.
*** Marcos Lopez carried the load for South El Monte with 25-carries for 89-yards.
*** Mead’s Michael “Gunny” Sahagun had another stellar game at linebacker.
*** Eagles WR Angel Reyes had two receptions for 47-yards, one being a 43-yarder to paydirt for South’s only score.
*** Panthers WR Luis Luna chipped in with three catches for 56-yards.
*** Offensive and defensive tackles Richard Lopez and Joseph Ramirez were two bright spots for the Eagles.
*** Rosemead (6-1, 2-0) travels to El Monte (1-6, 0-2) next week, while South El Monte (2-4, 1-1) will face Gabrielino (4-2, 1-1).
