(Hacienda Heights) – Estuardo Marcos rushed for 190 yards and three touchdowns and the defense came up with a huge stop on fourth down late in the game as Los Altos beat West Covina 24-21 Thursday night.
Marcos iced the game with 1:58 left in the contest when he busted off a run right up the middle of the West Covina defense for an 82 yard touchdown scamper to put the Conquerors up 24-14. It was the first play from scrimmage following a stop by the Los Altos defense on a West Covina fourth and one from the LA 18 yard line.
Withe victory Los Altos clinched second place in the Hacienda League and a spot in the playoffs. West Covina could be left on the outside looking in.
***After Marcos’ 88 yard TD run the Bulldogs drove right down the field. Sidney Jones caught a 37-yard pass from Isaiah Bravo down to the Los Altos 24 and DeShon Love capped it with two-yard touchdown run to cut the lead to 24-21 with 1:13 left.
***Los Altos recovered the onside kick and ran out the clock.
***Los Altos scored first on a 23-yard Manny Medina field goal in the second quarter.
***The Conquerors took advantage of a West Covina turnover late in the second. Daniel Valdez picked off Bravo and returned it to the Westco 25. Three plays later Marcos then scored from 13 yards out for a 10-0 Los Altos halftime lead.
***West Covina fumbled the kick off to open the third quarter and Los Altos recovered at the Bulldog 32. Marcos scored on a two-yard run for a 17-0 lead.
***Love scored all three touchdowns for West Covina on runs of seven, two and two yards. Josh Best was the leading ground gainer for the Bulldogs with 160 yards in 21 carries.
***Love’s two yard run with 44 seconds left in the third quarter cut the Los Altos lead to 17-14.
***Los Altos quarterbacks Lorenzo Silva and Cristian Hacegaba combined for just 82 yards through the air.
***Bravo completed 7 of 12 for 129 yards and an interception for West Covina.
***”The boys dug deep tonight. They really dug deep. That’s a great West Covina team over there and they have dominated the Hacienda before. So for us to beat then tonight is a huge accomplishment,” said Los Altos Coach Dale Ziola.
***Los Altos finshed the regular season 8-2 overall and 4-2 in league. West Covina fell to 5-5 and 3-3.
