Saints Go Marching…Over Pomona

By Joe Rodriguez

(Covina)- With the Valle Vista League title for the taking, the expectation was for a fairly contested game. Only it wasn’t. The San Dimas Saints jumped out to an early 14-0 lead, and continued to pour it on all night to rout the Pomona Red Devils 49-6 on Friday night at Covina District Field.

On their opening drive the Saints running back Joseph Mayorga scored from 42-yards out to put San Dimas up 7-0 with 7:57 left in the first.

Aided by a roughing the kicker penalty on a fourth down, Pomona reached the San Dimas 17 only to come up empty after a missed field goal.

The Saints then proceeded to put another 21 points on the board to lead 28-0 with 1:38 left in the second.

The Red Devils lone highlight of the night came when Darreon Lockett found Desmond Bobo for an 18 yard end zone connection. This would be the only points put up by the Red Devils; Pomona’s offense simply could get anything going all night as Lockett was constantly under pressure when dropping back.

San Dimas used a solid ground game to amass 423 total rushing yards on the night. Pomona had no answer for the San Dimas duo of Fausto Martinez and Mayorga.
