Keppel 51, La Cañada 48
Justin Saisho (13 points), a bleak two of 11 shooting heading into the fourth quarter, delivered when it mattered most, scoring Keppel’s final seven points down the stretch, including a go-ahead three to snatch the lead for good, en route to a 51-48 victory over host La Cañada.
Bertram Mak notched 15 points and 14 rebounds for the Aztecs, who were led in scoring and dishing by Adam Thompson with 19 points and seven assists.
Koko Kurdoghlian led all scorers with 19 points and also contributed 10 rebounds, four assists, three steals, and a block for the Spartans, which fell short on multiple chances late to tie and/or send the game into overtime.
Keppel will vie for the tournament championship Saturday night at 7:30PM in the Hotchkin Family Gymnasium’s “Sports Palace” against St. Francis.
St. Francis 50, Bonita 26:
The game unfolded ever so forebodingly for both teams which for a majority of the opening half had more turnovers than total combined points, before St. Francis swept into command during the third quarter and finished in convincing fashion to score a 50-26 win over Bonita.
The Golden Knight defense proved every bit stellar, smothering and limiting the Bearcats to single digits in each quarter (4, 8, 5, 9).
Kyle Leufroy had 19 points, nine rebounds, four steals, and three assists. Evan Crawford (5 points) furnished team-highs in steals (5) and assists (7), while Noah Willerford led a productive second half start for the Golden Knights with eight points in the third quarter.
Bonita languished under the stout defensive pressure of St. Francis and was 11 for 48 FG and a frigid 4 for 23 on three-pointers.
South Hills 79, Arcadia 53:
Jacob Estrada poured it on in an impressive career-best performance of 32 points and 10 three-pointers for South Hills, which dominated from the start, forced a running clock in the final stanza, and romped away with too much ground for Arcadia to chase.
The Huskies hit a whopping 17 threes total in this game, and assist tallies were high for several players as a result of the rhythmically hot offense. Shane Hopkins dished out seven; Darik Pradia and Chris Martin (9 rebounds) both notched five; while Josiah Sotomayor had four.
Brandon Hardy led Arcadia with 11 points, eight rebounds, and six steals. Armand Gourdikian scored eight points, Aaron Harvey had seven, both Daren Sue and Kade Cheung each notched six, and Brandon Wong provided eight assists.
Marina 67, Glendale 52
Marina: Greg Fronek Jr (5 for 5 three pointers, 19 points), Derek Mallard (9 points, 6 assists), Jeffery Feit (10 points), Gabe Copper (9 points).
Glendale: Eric Kirakosian – 13 points, 7 steals, 2 assists, 3 rebounds. Alex Miralis – 12 points, 8 rebounds Tyler Lousararian – 10 points Arthur Terzyan – 10 points, 11 rebounds, 5 blocks, 2 steals, 3 assists.
