Glendale Works OT to Beat Mt. SAC in Smith’s Debut

  • By Corey Kwok
  • Nick Padilla (Birmingham) struck a bases clearing double to right, and then scored on a RBI single from Jay Sheeley (Quartz Hill) for Glendale, which notched four runs in the top of the 11th inning en route to a 8-4 road victory against Mt SAC in a non-conference contest.
  • Glendale came through for all eight of its runs against two outs to ruin Mt. Sac head coach Kevin Smith’s debut. Smith came over from  South Hills to take over at Mt. SAC.
  • The Vaqueros were paced in the late bullpen by effective pitching from Brad Felty (Monrovia), Carl Daniels (Monrovia), and Keaton Leach (South Pasadena). Felty halted the Mounties at a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the 7th. Daniels dealt 2 2/3s of scoreless ball before Leach (South Pasadena HS) tossed flawlessly over the final 1 1/3s for a win in relief.
  • Mt SAC didn’t score until its half of the 7th when RBI walks by Edgar Cabral (La Puente), Dustin Frailey (Alta Loma), and Niko Contreras South Hills) forced in its first three (of four) runs that inning, with the fourth via SAC fly from Boomer Baker (Chino Hills).

Glendale took a 2-0 lead in the fourth as David Garcia (San Fernando) and Raul Camas (Chatsworth) plated on an RBI single by Harley Faye (Cleveland [3/5, 2B, RBI]) and walk by NJ Omoruyi (Westchester). They doubled that to 4-0 in the top 7th when Eddie Munoz (Campbell Hall) flew home off an RBI single from Jerry Ismerio (Chatsworth [2/4, RBI]) before Carlos Robles (San Fernando) capitalized upon an outfield throwing error.
