Lydell McCullough
Arroyo’s Lydell McCullough stepped down as basketball Coach Tuesday after three years at the helm.
McCullough took over the Knight program in 2006 and was an immediate success winning the Mission Valley League title in his inaugural season of 2006-’07. The Knights went 9-1 on their way to the crown and finished 15-13 overall. Arroyo lost to St. Margaret’s in the first round of the playoffs.
Arroyo missed the playoffs the last two seasons going 4-6 in league both years. McCullough played his high school ball at Los Altos and was an assistant for the Conquerors before assuming coaching duties at Arroyo.
McCullough cited a couple different reasons led to his decision to step down- family and another coaching opportunity.
“I can now spend more time with my six month old daughter, Emma, ” McCullough said.
McCullough is going to back to Los Altos as an assistant basketball coach and is also heading the softball program. But for McCullough, who lives near Los Altos, the time commitment won’t be nearly as great as Arroyo.
A replacement has yet to be named.
