All kickoffs are at 7:00 p.m. unless otherwise indicated.
Thursday September 30
Montebello (1-4) at San Gabriel (5-0)
A chance for San Gabriel to show its for real entering Almont League play. The Matadors are unbeaten but naysayers say they haven’t beaten anybody. Montebello wants to show it’s still the team to beat in league despite a rough start. It looks like the Matadors year. Mats get it done.
San Gabriel 24 Montebello 17
Bell Gardens (1-3) at Schurr (2-3)
Key game in the Almont. A loss puts you behind the eight ball while a win puts you in contention in a wide open Almont League. Bell Gardens may battle early but Schurr has the most talent. Spartans come out on top.
Schurr 28 Bell Gardens 10
Friday October 1st
California (4-2) at El Rancho (6-0)
The game everybody (especially the Mid Valley Sports commenters) have been waiting for. El Rancho has its detractors (they haven’t played anybody) and its supporters (Hey they’re undefeated!). If ER has been a surprise Cal has been a shock. The Condors are ready to make a move in the Del Rio. Until they prove it though their only third best. Remember La Serna is still out there. Elijah Mitchell, Anthony Bonilla and El Rancho start off league on the right track.
El Rancho 27 California 24
Crescenta Valley (1-3) at Pasadena (3-2) (Moved to Thursday September 30)
Mark my words. Nobody will touch Pasadena in the Pacific. Not Muir, not Burbank and not CV. Pasadena rolls here and the rest of the year. Bulldogs big.
Pasadena 35 Crescenta Valley 13
Monrovia (5-0) at La Canada (4-1)
See Pasadena – Crescenta Valley preview. Monrovia is in the same boat. The Wildcats will roll through the Rio. They’re on the path to 10-0. M-Town in a rout.
Monrovia 42 La Canada 7
Ayala (6-0) at Glendora (6-0) (Citrus College)
The game of the week. Undefeated Glendora up against undefeated Ayala. Both teams look strong and should win their respective leagues. Ayala though looks next level. Did you see the win over La Habra last week? The Highlanders aren’t having their usual success but they’re still the Highlanders. Ayala beat Tustin the week before 42-7. Glendora suffers its first loss.
Ayala 31 Glendora 24
Los Altos (1-5) at Charter Oak (4-2)
Los Altos is having a rough year while Charter Oak is having a resurgence. The Conquerors may get started in two weeks when league starts but Charter Oak has too much in this one. Chargers claim the victory.
Charter Oak 34 Los Altos 13
Northview (2-4) at Bonita (5-1)
Northview has had some tough non-league games -Charter Oak, Cal, Mayfair and now Bonita. So far the Vikings have lost them all. They won’t fare much here. Daniel Andrade and the Bearcats should have no trouble here.
Bonita 38 Northview 10
@ Ranch18 so you’re a high class troll?
@HS Football Fans
Obviously it’s not my name … but when you post someone’s real name … you’d expect to put who you are. I guess I just have diff mentality. That’s why these trolls lurk my social media and then try and speak over here …lol
@FridayTikes
There you again, I just want to know why you are talking crap about SEM schedule when you scheduled the same team in Glendale? You like to run your mouth but you are doing the same thing! I hope you bring that same energy in a couple weeks. Were gonna shut your mouth for you chump! You own the MVL you aint playing with teams outside the league. stay in your lane!
@Ranch18 is Ranch your name? So you probably are anonymous as well. I like how you hype up ER its good for sports. Good luck to CAL and ER tomorrow.
Look at Friday Knights aka Get Back Coach aka Chain Gang aka Assistant to the Assistant! She’s so happy the Transfer Express is done with at El Monte. Now Arroyo is on top again. Her life is complete.
The Almont league needs a shake up. Keppel needs to jump in a league that gives them a chance to win some games and make the playoffs. The Montebello schools could go with the whittier schools. SG go with the El Monte schools. Alhambra, South Pasadena, Gabrielino, San Marino, Rosemead, La Canada would be a good league. Would be a competitive league in all sports.
Downey has a bunch of warmups games before they play Warren for the league title.
Who cares , Ramos gone yet ?
tim must have not approved my message yesterday …. lol sorry tim
ranch18 – for you to try and come on here to FAKE post bro? dang…. you must be very bitter or sad
The Cal people form ER know this is all Entertainment and for poops and giggles … as adults we can turn it on and turn it off, i keep saying this.
best believe tomorrow , Louie and his boys are coming HOME to win! they know it wont be easy… they know what they are walking into @ THE RANCH…. y’all will never understand unless you’ve put everything on the line for that circle with the ER in the middle ..
I wish people didn’t stay anonymous.
Tomorrow its gonna be CRACKIN !!!! OLD SCHOOL BANG BANG!!!! BABY!
I joked with someone on a FB page how THIS game is the new BLACK n BLUE game. The history that game had before.. is not the same in ERvsBG… but today
ERvsCal=BLACKnBLUE2.0
anonymous next time you want to fake post about me … SPELL THE NAME CORRECTLY LOL
Reading one of many anonymous comments regarding South El Monte and their tough (cough cough) non league schedule, the funniest thing on the Internet I’ve read all day. South El Montes opponents have a combined record of 4-16! Not exactly murderers row.
Gabrielino beats them this week! book it!
The transfer from EM to Arroyo is going to help them and have something to say about MVP.
Bold prediction by mid valley sports going with San Gabriel who really haven’t beaten anybody maybe San Marino. Pete always has the boys for league granted it’s a rebuilding year but should still complete and challenge for the almont
@Truth
That’s spot on! All I hear is they don’t have that typical Arroyo Qb and receivers but they keep on winning… impressively. Looking forward to see if that passing game progresses because they will need it come playoffs. I’m not sure anyone in league can really challenge them this season unless things change. Rosemead looks like the closest contender and preseason the word was SEM was back but both teams have struggled.
It’s time for MVL FOOTBALL FOLKS!!!
SEM a tuff non-league schedule? Lol all the teams they played except BP only have ONE win … real tuff lol
You were replying to an imposter, he would never say such things and has tons of love for Louie, Gary Rico and the rest of the ER guys over there, something needs to pay the bills, but they know where their heart is that won’t ever change.
That was an imposter, theranch18 has love for all those former ER guys and wouldn’t call them traitors, just someone tryna create fake drama. Louie Zamora will always have blue blood pumping through his veins, if not for some questionable backdoor deals Louie would’ve been the head coach at ER in 2008.
@Ranch18
Last I checked the majority of the offensive staff are former LS players/coaches and the DC coaches at Whittier forever. Guessing you’re just taking shots at Cal HC Zamora. But why? Let a dude get a teaching job and coach where he can. “True Ranch guys” gtfo bruh. People need to earn a living.
@Ranch18: Let me get the thinking of El Rancho Alums correct. If you graduated from El Rancho you are a traitor if you coach at another school. I guess that makes your current HC a phony and a Traitor because he coached at several other schools before making his way back to El Rancho. Pretty harsh.
Honestly I did not think Arroyo was going to win in the fashion they have been due to lack of skill players aka studs. Yes the have many weaknesses but they have been playing as a team and winning. Come playoff time teams with better players WILL test them, but hopefully they can continue to play as a team and shock the non believers
Anonymous,
You may not be on board with the new Arroyo Coach but there is zero doubt who is winning league! Rosemead will be the second place team and we should have no problem with them.
Gabrielino isn’t ready for the knights but should finish third.
South is a complete disaster where the athletes are running the show.
El Monte Vs View will battle for the “toilet bowl game” at the bottom.
So I ask who do you see beating the Knights?
Cal coaches are traitors. None of them are true Ranch guys. Thats why they coach elsewhere.
You are right on the ER game Peterson. If ER wins the detractors will say they still haven’t played anybody. If ER loses the haters will say I told you so.
Gabrielino vs South El Monte(Home). Gabrielino football is 3-1 with wins over Glendale, Bosco Tech and Keppel. Only loss is to the undefeated San Gabriel. South El monte is 2-3 against a tough non-league schedule. I will say that the Mission Valley league is wide open this year. I am not sold on Arroyo this year winning as with their new head coach it looks like they lost a step. Who knows right, that’s why we play the games on Friday! Finally some League Football to set the rankings for CIF playoffs. Where each game counts.
League Openers across the Mission Valley League starts on Friday. League might be down this year but I could mean some pretty good games.
Rosemead opens up vs Mountain View
Ostry perhaps the best player in the league this year should have a big game. The duo of Ostry and Campbell will be too much for my Alma Mater. 35-7
Arroyo opens with EM. Arroyo being the favorite to win league should end this pretty early Omar Navarro is picking up where past Arroyo QBs have left off, he will definitely challenge Ostry for league MVP. Arroyo scores early and often and will win 49-0
This biggest game in the MVL is Gabrielino visiting the swamp! Gab is 3-1 and ready to make a statement. SEM on the other hand has lost two in a row and has its detractors for sure. Key to the game is who can stop the run! Both teams can throw a little but both rely heavily on the ground game. SEM Qb Cazarez must have a big game for South to win. I haven’t seen enough of what SEM does well to pick them, I’m predicting A Gab victory 28-21
@ Aztec: The last time Mark Keppel beat Alhambra in football was in 1999. It’s probably been about that long since the Aztecs won a league game. We’ll see you at Moor Field on Friday night.
That’s not always the case, some programs don’t emphasize the lower levels and put a lot of their development into their varsity program, I’d be very careful with that prediction.
Two years ago SG’s freshmen beat Montebello for the league title, they are now Juniors and will put it on them this week.
Come on mid valley sports the disrespect to not even mention keppel vs Alhambra. Keppel looking to win an almont league win in who knows how long against our little Brother.
Can’t forgot that a former schurr assistant is the head coach at bg
