You can call it a “competition” all you want, the decision has already been made. You can’t change destiny nor the contribution and impact of the Long family at La Serna, 4 more years of Long.

If this is the best Long kid then he should be a very talented young man.Very well known name at La Serna HS and area with tremendous respect. A colleague of mine from St. Paul sent me the Hudl of Montebello kid, he looks adept at the position from what I seen on film. But we all know HS is the real trial. Should be a monstrous battle for the future quarterback of friendly hills.

I’ve heard of this player for Montebello indians for sometime speculation was to El rancho.Once again La Serna gets it’s pick of the litter.

I hope he’s looking to play some defense, Grady Long is on his way, you know the younger brother of Owen Long the area player of the year, could be the best Long in the family.

Word is a a good qb from montebello youth football team will be enrolling at La Serna next year. Interesting that his older brother was the rb at el rancho couple seasons ago. Could be hearsay.

You can’t really blame them. I’m pretty sure it’s just chronic TD fatigue.

When you beat El Rancho by an avg score of 45-9 for 8 years in a row, that’s a lot of work.

Do you know how tiring it is to score
    7 TDs
for every time ER manages just
    1 TD,
every year, for over a decade?

Obviously they are all worn out from all that scoring on El Ranchita.

Every guy on the LS team is the most valuable in the universe, scoring thousands of points per second, only not against Palos Verdes.

When you score more points in 1 Qtr
(26 pts vs El Rancho) than the whole
league scored against you in 4 games
(25 pts vs LS in DRL), you probably deserve 20 players on the all league team.

Probably would have been 22, but returning all league players Namba & Dressen were injured and didn’t play in league or playoffs.

Where’s Beltran? Unemployed? When Beltran left he took one or 2 peeps. LS has been fine without him. ER talks more than they play but they are scrappy and will play 4 qt. Tough bunch of kids.

From the looks of this piece, you’d think La Serna had just won state, instead of getting tossed in the first round. If this year’s Lancers were so lights-out good, how did they get spanked by a program few of us had ever heard of?

If you switched George and Medrano El Rancho would fade into obscurity bacause George can’t coach up locals like most coaches that get the pick of the litter year after year. La Serna would probably be D1 in two or three seasons.

Whittier beat Sonora and Bellflower last year and they won plenty of playoff games and Sonora was hyped all year as top team.

Cal beat Schurr and idk how they barely lost to Los Altos. Schurr was hyped all year

as far as strength of leagues I don’t think Del Rio is far behind Our Local leagues …

George at LS and Medrano at ER have both won multiple playoff games in their stints as coaches at their respective school, this new playoff system is luck of the draw, LS had an amazing team but played against a team that could match their athleticism and speed in rd1, ER started about 7-8 sophomores, not experienced enough and didn’t have the speed to contain the Palmdale speed, when we look at the entire mid valley coverage area LS and ER have been some of the strongest and most consistent teams in the area. SF and Whittier are not very strong, but it’s rare to see a league ever be strong from top to bottom unless we’re talking trinity league.

    Let’s be honest , I’m not a LS fan either. I’m a ER fan.

Mahlstead years with SF they made the finals once I believe , always lost in warmers or semi . Everyone else in the league lost first round.

Cal and Grisby miracle year , the rest of the league lost first round also.

Beltran LS years , the rest of the league lost in first round.
Now respect is given for what he was able to START at LS but George took that and out a supercharger on it . Y’all need to understand if CiF was area based like it was for Beltrans time, LS would have won CiF the last two years easy. TBH LS might have 3 or 4 CiF titles …. I don’t like them but you gotta respect and be honest with what they have built, (no matter the arrogance) .

So our league is not weak , actually lately if someone does the homework, you will see that DRL has won more playoff games together than a decade or two ago . I personally think DRL is under ratted , if you look at the teams wins during season , whose league in the area is tougher ? Not many . As for LS , they always get over looked and passed up on “rankings “ .. yet every year they seem to be 1. the top of conversations 2. One of the last teams playing in he area

Idk about homegrown, the school itself would not be as successful with kids from the hill alone .

It’s actually 20 all stars, since you were trying to count.

There are only 3 teams in the entire state of CA that have more wins and fewer losses than La Serna does the past 5 seasons =

    1-Mater Dei
    2-St John Bosco
    3-Oakland McClymonds

Not bad for a public school, who wins with homegrown players from Whittier & La Mirada.

Congrats to LS players & coaching staff!

?? A little bit of humor not realizing 17 all league players ( five honorable mention) in a league that did not win one playoff game. I congratulate all 17 players, and they are all good football players, but this does not mean they will win a playoff game. Please correct me if I am incorrect on this. The league , basically , is pretty weak. If the league was fairly strong,, as it was a decade or two decades ago, with Cal-Hi and Coach Patricio ( and one season Cal was coached by ‘quality coach Ancich and running back Grigsby) , then La Serna showed up after a couple head coaches left. Both teams earned ‘CIF Final Four’, and LS won a championship I believe. Santa Fe , with Mahlsted, had some very good teams too. It is very, very much easier to be all league player in 2022 than in 2000, or 2009 when Cal lost to Charter Oak in Semi’s with TJ Jones running all over the league at running back. I ask you “?” a question. Why did this league not win one game in playoffs? League is pretty weak and

They must have voted two MVPs?
LS won league so they have automatic “vote” to who is the big 3 & Head coach.
Speaks Volumes of that EL RANCHO kid who was able to still be voted MVP when his team didn’t even win league . What kid from ER is it ?

If Coach Beltran is still the head coach at La Serna they have at least 1 more CIF Championships (don’t lose to Pacifica) and probably win a State Championship that same season. Might have another one, they would not have lost to St. Paul in the quarterfinals either!

Can we talk about how this program has fallen short of standards set forth by those whom understand what hard work is? Being born on third base doesn’t make you a winner.

With 17 players that are all-stars and a head coach that is Coach of the Year it is hard to understand how they got dumped in the first round by a bunch of Richie Richies from PV. With that many all stars with most of these guys going both ways La Serna had all-stars at every position the entire game not to mention a coaching legend on the sidelines. BTW great art work. Who did it Leroy Neiman or Andy Warhol?
