(Whittier) -Visko Ancich has stepped down as the head football coach at Whittier after 11 years at the helm.
Ancich had a 43-63 overall record in his 11-year run. The Cardinals’ best year was 2015 when they went 6-5 overall and took second in the Del Rio but lost in the first round of the Southeast Division playoffs to Downey 35-7.
Whittier also advanced to the playoffs in 2017 when they finished third in the Del Rio and fell in the first round of the CIF Division 10 playoffs to Pacifica 57-21. The Cards went 5-6 overall.
Ancich is the second Del Rio League coach to resign this off season. Santa Fe’s Carl Agnew stepped down last month. Whittier will begin the search for new head coach immediately.
Triple Treat
December 23, 2022 – 4:47 p 100% truth my friend. You are exactly correct, and I thank you for being one person with intelligence in this focus
visko is 1/100 the coach his brother is! zero motivation. zero positive reinforcement talent. Zero communication ability to inspire even one of fifty players. Sure he has St Paul’s old offensive playbook down to perfection, but very bad coach. Zero personality and head coach need personality to win. he was hired by a ‘tenor sax ‘ student while at SP, and this man fooled all necessary to be given the job of hiring the new head coach because WHS had no one else with athletic background except the AD who was great high jumper. The Assistant principal of business/activities never played a sport at St paul high school. Zero athletic knowledge unless he read a book. He also fired the very very good basketball staff led by Joey mata and Saldana. They made playoffs every year I believe. AP Activities hired a teacher instead and basketball program straight downhill, and still downhill. one of the most ridiculous hiring and firing I have ever observed. No I have not observed Ancich’s practices first hand, but my knowledge is learned from his assistants
Triple threat is 100% correct in my opinion . Dusan is a natural leader , and with inborn leadership qualities opposite from his brother . Night and day difference . Thank you Triple Threat . But , after many years of teaching high school , there is in major problem . Half ( ?? More ? Less ?) Of Principals never been involved in athletics , therefor do not give one ounce of ?? Focus , and are ignorant ( msybe great curriculum director , etc ) of Value good athletics . How sports can teach top priority life skills that cannot be learned in classroom .
Less than zero personality , non motivator , and never positively reinforces quality play .
Whittier Union HS District has a great salary schedule
Area ? Louie Zamora has only one chance , and this chance is if Whittier needs to hire according to teaching vacancies ! Otherwise zero unless WHS wants to continue being miserable , and play same as Anciches teams. Very much ” underachieving ” their potential !
Andy George ? Funny suggestion he leave Heaven to coach at school that has shown careless interest
Oh please
What makes La Serna so great is the coach dose not have to leave his campus
to find talent. He coaches whoever is on campus. Great coaches find ways to build programs
with whoever is available to them. La Serna isnt a private school that recruits. It is built with Whittier homegrown boys.
Here’s a news flash: one of the principal duties of a high school coach is to seek out the talent that exists on his campus and motivate them to join his team. This notion of “good coaches” not being able to succeed because the kids don’t automatically flow into his presence is a cop-out. It’s more than likely that the difference between Visko and his brother Dusan is that Dusan mixes with the kids and motivates them to participate. This issue of selling one’s program to the youngsters is an extremely overlooked factor in sports, but it’s so very crucial.
Visko is good. Just didn’t have the talent.
We are far better off for having read the same comment three times.
you guys suggesting George would want leave La Serna to coach Whittier , I think , is absurd. Visco Ancich appears close to opposite of his brother Ducian ( I don’t know how to spell his name). Ducian has personality, motivates moving players to their potential, and plenty more major differences between the two. Basically Visco’s brother is a WINNER
Hope Ziola goes after one of those jobs.which he’d have never left Covina. We are far worse since his return
Hope Ziola is going after one of those jobs! Wish Ziola would have never left Covina. We are far worse off for his return. Why couldn’t he just stay away?
Hope Ziola is going after one of those jobs! Wish Ziola would have never left Covina. We are far worse off for his return. Why couldn’t he just stay away? Covina wouldn’t be in the market for another coach, and we wouldn’t be miserable with him back. Maybe he goes for one of the Whittier jobs? One could only hope!
Has Santa Fe interviewed??
Santa Fe has offered Visko a quarter million to bring his win percentage over to their place. Ancich is presently flying to Hawaii for Christmas, courtesy of SF, just to think it over.
Let the speculation begin
Is this all a smoke screen.
Could it be Andy George
Could it be Adrian Medrano
Could it be Louie Zamora
when these blogs first started, people would speculate about who would get the workman job if it was open. You don’t see that anymore now except for someone pumping Matt V or Maxie to be a head coach.
Thats two down one more to go.
