  1. The Texas Rangers beat the Houston Astros 11-4 Monday night to win the ALCS in seven games. 
  2. The Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-2 Tuesday night to win the NLCS in seven games. 
  3. The Lakers lost to the Denver Nuggets 119-107 Tuesday night to open the 2023-’24 NBA season.  
  4. The Minnesota Vikings beat the San Francisco 49ers 22-17 on Monday Night Football. 
  5. The Rams released kicker Brett Maher Tuesday and signed former Indianapolis Colts kicker Lucas Havrisik. 
  6. Bob Melvin is set to leave the San Diego Padres to become the manager of the San Francisco Giants according to sources. 
  7. World Series Game 1: Arizona at Texas, Friday October 27, FOX.  
  8. Monrovia at San Marino, Thursday night, 7:00 p.m. 
  9. Lincoln Riley’s overall record at USC is 17-5. Clay Helton’s record through his first 22 games at USC was 17-5. 
  10. Due to a fight at the end of the Rosemead-Gabrielino game Friday night both teams were suspended and had to forfeit this week’s games. The only Mission Valley League game this week is South El Monte at Mt. View.

    USC’s hiring of Lincoln Riley can be compared to a teenager over paying for a mechanically faulty car because the paint and chrome are eye-catching. The only question here is: how long until fans turn on this fellow hard enough to force a contract buyout? By the way, I consulted with several in-the-know La Serna fans who tell me that Margarito Beltran would make a great Trojan coach, based on how he single-handedly made the Lancer program what it is today, without the help of open enrollment.
