  1. The Angels hired Ron Washington as their new manager. Washington last managed in 2014 when he resigned from the Texas Rangers and has been the third base coach for the Atlanta Braves for the last seven years.

  3. The Chicago Bears beat the Carolina Panthers 16-13 on Thursday Night Football. 
  4. The Lakers are 3-5 through their first eight games.

  6. Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao sent a letter to 15 owners in Major League Baseball imploring them to reject A’s owner John Fisher’s attempt to move the team to Las Vegas. 
  7. Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 54 points but the Milwaukee Bucks lost to the Indiana Pacers 126-124 Thursday night.

  9. On this date in 1983 “Marvelous” Marvin Hagler retained his world middleweight boxing title with a 15-round unanimous decision over Roberto Duran at Ceasars Palace in Las Vegas.
  10. Former MLB outfielder Jack Clark, who won the Silver Slugger Award with the San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals, turns 68 today.
