(La Puente) – Gus Martinez has stepped down as the head football coach at Nogales after four years sources confirmed Tuesday.
The Nobles went 5-5 on the field last year but had a record of 2-8 overall after three wins were declared forfeit losses due to ineligible players.
Nogales’ only winning season during Martinez’ four-year run came in 2022 when the Nobles finished 6-4 but they missed the playoffs.
Nogales was 3-7 combined in the COVID-19 shortened Spring season of 2021 and the fall campaign. The Nobles were 11-23 during Martinez four-year stint, (14-20 without the forfeits).
Nogales will begin the search for new head coach immediately.

Sure is a stupid way to wait for your next victim.
From past experiences he lets them know what happens. But NO he let them do it. Head coach or not you let him know what’s going to happen if they get caught and they don’t do it.
That coach didn’t make the decision to play the kids Martinez did. If Martinez didn’t that decision then he was a puppet and should resign. But Martinez has been looking hard to leave Nogales
Martinez has had a great, great opportunity to win it all several seasons ago, but lack of team discipline at Fullerton cost him and his club terribly!

Yeah last years playoff snub hurt Coach , but hiring Matt V hurt more . We were vocal in this regard at the time of the hiring . Really what was he thinking ? Why sell out ?
Looked like Nogales were on the right track last year. They coached a hell of a team and got snubbed from the playoffs I feel like, I feel like we’re a dark horse to have a good year this year. But like another commenter said the guy that kills programs came in and boom. Cost them a 5-5 record and possible at large because they put everything on those transfers. Only reason that didn’t happen at Amat is because it’s Amat. Happen at SV then happen went to Amat kids left after he didn’t pay their tuition, now Nogales. He’s might be a good consultant for a program but definitely not a good face or coach for one. Could even put La Salle on there they heard the truth a lot of people don’t know and let him walk.

Gus’s biggest mistake was hiring the destroyer of programs and of course he destroyed the program. Gus is out of a job and the destroyer moves on to the next sucker.
